I loved her, but I told her I did no

The water is off. Nutgrove Beach, Sandy Bay. December 2012. I do believe that I am entering my prime ... Exile , Donald Hall A boy who played and talked and read with me Fell from a maple tree. I loved her, but I told her I did not, And wept, and then forgot. I walked the streets where I was born and grew, And all the streets were new.

There are two kinds of weakness, that which breaks and that which bends.

Wombat stew?

Few enterprises of great labour or hazard would be undertaken if we had not the power of magnifying the advantages we expect from them.

Can you spot him?

As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand.

Ezra whips Henry like a government mule.

It is a very delicate job to forgive a man, without lowering him in his own estimation, and yours too.

Henry does his best impression of a wombat. On a beach.

She looked like something that might have occurred to Ibsen in one of his less frivolous moments.

Henry, or Lesley Hornby? YOU decide!

What they do in heaven we are ignorant of; what they do not do we are told expressly.

Wordless Wednesday...

Moderate strength is shown in violence, supreme strength is shown in levity.

Have I mentioned yet that Ezra, my most beautiful and talented youngest son [as opposed to my most beautiful and talented oldest son] is beautiful and talented? Yes, both poo and wee in the toilet for some time now. What a relief! Now we just have to work out what to do with all these cloth nappies…

Characters do not change. Opinions alter, but characters are only developed.

Henry on a seesaw. Henry on a teeter-totter. Henry on a tilt. Henry on a tilting board. Henry on a teedle board. Henry on a dandle board. Henry on a Ridey-Horse. Henry on a Hickey-horse. Henry on a seesaw .

Few can believe that suffering, especially by others, is in vain. Anything that is disagreeable must surely have beneficial economic effects.

More bloody boats. Racing off Tranmere, as seen from Sandy Bay. December 2010. Every summer in Hobart means boats, more boats, and MORE bloody boats. Honestly, we have boats coming out of our ears. There are too many boats and not enough sharks. I have long been an advocate of a Bill of Rights for Great White Sharks, including enshrining the right of one (1) boat – plus crew – per shark, per month. This way, we could keep a check on this rapidly growing boat population, and improve the quality of life of our besieged Great White communities. Honestly, the way that people carry on when one has a simple nibble out of a surfboard, you can imagine what would happen if one did the full Quint to one of these airy fairy, lardy dardy, goody goody, namby pamby, hoity toity, wishy washy, not in my backyard, chardonnay-sipping, doing nothin' do gooders. They would be calling the WAAAAAAH-mbulence quick smart and we would then have a violent and conceited revenge fantasy on our hands. It is ...

Words are cheap. The biggest thing you can say is 'elephant'.

We’ve been planning our trip to Mars for quite some time now, but have found getting time in the simulators quite difficult. Thus, we’ve had to make do with playground equipment until I get this centrifugal whizzy whirl – it’s technical name – built.

He declared that he knew nothing, except the fact of his ignorance.

Part monkey, part pirate; Ezra has been practicing his scaling of the rope ladder (with cutlass tucked down the back of the pants), before he ships out to the Somalian coast...

Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof.

There are times where it is perfectly okay for your mother to give you a good hard push . This is one of those times…

Boldness be my friend.

Note: this is Nutgrove Beach in Sandy Bay, not Abu Dhabi...

The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd.

Almost a year on from the first memorable series that I called Ezra³ , we revisit the theme with a new piece: EZRA=1/1 .

Because of their size, parents may be difficult to discipline properly.

Here you can see [from left to right] Ezra, Henry and Jennifer all auditioning for the lead role in the new remake of That Girl . Personally, I think that Ez has best captured the Marlo Thomas-vibe. Henry is a little too Sally Field in the Flying Nun and Jen far too Mary Tyler Moore to best be that girl .

But nobody did come, because nobody does; and under the crushing recognition of his gigantic error Jude continued to wish himself out of the world.

Theme Thursday already? All right, squint really really hard at the view from Nutgrove Beach, and you'll see a windsurfer on the left, and a BELL on the right. Or maybe it's a BELL on the left or a windsurfer on the right. Look, one of them is a BELL and one of them is a windsurfer, take my word for it!

Brown girl in the ring (Tra ra la la La)

So this Christmas afternoon saw us venture down to Nutgrove Beach down in Sandy Bay to check out their new playground. The playground is fine, the local kids, less so... That said, I did get to try out the new-fangled 'panorama' option on the camera [click to enlarge].
