All objects lose by too familiar a view.

Seeds. Princes Street, Sandy Bay. July 2012. Another Tuesday, another Q and A. Another stolen from Sunday Stealing. This week, The Useless Questions Meme . If you have any questions (useless or otherwise), I'm always up for answering them! Have you ever written a song? I’ve written poems that could be presented as songs, but no, I’ve not explicitly written a song. Have you ever been in the opposite sex's public toilet? Many years ago now. It’s not that exciting. Are you superstitious? Not in the least bit. What's the most daring thing you've done? Having children. By a long stretch. Did you have a baby blanket? Do you still sleep with it? I assume that I did. I do have a blanket that I used as a child. It’s on Ezra’s bed at the moment. Have you ever tried to cut your own hair? If yes, how’d it work out? No. That would not be a wise thing to attempt. Have you ever sleepwalked? Not to my knowledge. If you could be any age, what age would you be...

Do not consider painful what is good for you.

Young love... Ain't it grand?

The right word may be effective, but no word was ever as effective as a rightly timed pause.

Okay then, for the major prize: What is Ezra looking at?

All men have an instinct for conflict: at least, all healthy men.

I like to call this Big Henry in Blue .

so much depends / upon / a red wheel / barrow

The view towards Melbourne. The scenery atop the Nut. Stanley, Tasmania's North West Coast. February 2012. If you've ever been to the small seaside town of Stanley, you'll be familiar with The Nut . One of the more distinctive landmarks in Tasmania, The Nut is an old volcanic plug with steep sides that rises up to 143 metres with a remarkably flat top. As you can see, it is possible to walk to the top of The Nut via a steep track (even for a three-year-old). For weaklings and nancies, there is the option of a chairlift... Henry takes a break halfway up the Nut. Stanley, Tasmania's North West Coast. February 2012. Now, a poem... The Red Wheelbarrow , William Carlos Williams so much depends upon a red wheel barrow glazed with rain water beside the white chickens. A Nut panorama. Stanley, Tasmania's North West Coast. February 2012.

The only normal people are the ones you don't know very well.

The blue flower. Royal Botanical Gardens, Hobart. October 2011. Sunday Top Five? Okay, and easy one: Five Things That Small Children Are Extremely Good At . Noise . My oh my are they good at making noise... Whining . There are days where any topic becomes subject to the whine. Henry is a master of whining. He can even whine a "thank you". Stickiness . My theory is that it must seep through the pores. Honestly, you can not have any sugar in the house, but let them loose on your computer and you can be guaranteed of stickiness. Mess . Three books and a ball. A three year old can some make three books and a ball look like Beruit circa 1983. Fussiness . Have you ever been told that your mash potatoes are "too spicy"? Ihave. Yes, potatoes, a pinch of salt and knob of butter is "too spicy". Hell, at times I've been told that a glass of plain milk is "too spicy".

Let's make a law that gay people can have birthdays, but straight people get more cake - you know, to send the right message to kids.

The colour of the day is... BLUE.

A man should always consider how much he has more than he wants.

Ezra tempts fate. Bellerive Wharf, Bellerive. January 2012. The Internet is a wonderful place filled with the rich and varied treasures of the world holds (and daggering.) The following are some things that I've had a look at in the last week. I call this: a Compendium of Click-throughs for Monday Morning ... YouTube is taking over the world! Don't say "man yoghurt" in my house... Anti-establishment Berlin football club sells its soul [to its fans]... Traps shut, kiddies! You've never had it so good ...

A sobering thought: what if, at this very moment, I am living up to my full potential?

Did you know that the human foot and ankle contains more than 26 bones, 33 joints and more than a hundred muscles, tendons, and ligaments? I didn't.

Meanings are not determined by situations, but we determine ourselves by the meanings we give to situations.

The day that Henry went all Syd Barrett on us.

The evil that is in the world almost always comes of ignorance, and good intentions may do as much harm as malevolence if they lack understanding.

Greek Orthodox Church prepares for a new day. Antill Street, South Hobart. July 2011. Cripes, I forgot again! I am going to recycle something that I wrote in a previous comments page just to stir up the possums... It concerns the outrage that many have with regards to the issue of gay couples having children. Now, my opinion on the matter is that too many people attach far too much significance on the concept of ‘ natural ’, which seems to me itself an incredibly subjective and contestable idea rather than some immutable scientific ‘ fact ’. Yet let us not get too sidetracked on that point. My belief is essentially one that assumes the only acceptable or correct equation in this area is "man + woman = parents" is wrong. Moreover, it is such a simplistic notion that barely seems worth arguing about. Surely anybody with any experience in the world much have collected by now innumerable examples of how the "man + woman = nothing like a parent (should be)". For me - i...
