to eat blackberries for breakfast

Gnome. Boat Harbour, Tasmania. March 2013. A gnome is legendary dwarfish creature alleged to have been brought to Earth to guard the earth's treasures. I believe that blackberries are uncluded. Blackberry Eating , Galway Kinnell I love to go out in late September among the fat, overripe, icy, black blackberries to eat blackberries for breakfast, the stalks very prickly, a penalty they earn for knowing the black art of blackberry-making; and as I stand among them lifting the stalks to my mouth, the ripest berries fall almost unbidden to my tongue, as words sometimes do, certain peculiar words like strengths or squinched, many-lettered, one-syllabled lumps, which I squeeze, squinch open, and splurge well in the silent, startled, icy, black language of blackberry -- eating in late September.

Every guilty person is his own hangman.

No Mr Henry... It is time to die!

Few enterprises of great labour or hazard would be undertaken if we had not the power of magnifying the advantages we expect from them.

Can you spot him?

The great secret of success is to go through life as a man who never gets used up.

Poser.

Admiration is a very short-lived passion, that immediately decays upon growing familiar with its object.

Guess which of my babies this one is?

I am not struck so much by the diversity of testimony as by the many-sidedness of truth.

Cold? You don't know cold! Why, when I were a lad we'd be thankful for this kind of cold! I'd go to sleep every night thankfully that I had a blanket of snow keeping me warm at night!

Far more thought and care go into the composition of any prominent ad in a newspaper or magazine than go into the writing of their stories.

Echidna on the prowl. Melbourne Zoo, April 2011. No not an enchilada . Nor an anteater . Not a hedgehog . And no, it isn't a porcupine . It is not a practical joke, pincushion or extradimensional being who only can reach Earth's reality through a schism in time and space. It is a monotreme. It lays eggs, but feeds its baby milk. It feeds its baby milk but it doesn't have nipples. It is an echidna . They live in Tasmania, but don't make very good pets.

He had the satisfied countenance of a man who has never succeeded in boring himself.

Wouldn’t you just love to be that lamp post?

It is even harder for the average ape to believe that he has descended from man.

"Look dude, I'm just trying to enjoy my Vegemite on rye in peace. Enough with the paparazzo s@%t!"

The formula 'two plus two equals five' is not without its attractions.

There's nothing cranky Hanky loves more than a quick game of hide and seek. Here he is behind Kate Moss's favourite hidey hole!

If anything can, it is memory that will save humanity. For me, hope without memory is like memory without hope.

Last weekend I was lucky to get an opportunity to spend some time in the company of both lads, with some halfway decent light for a change. This has afforded me the opportunity to snare some good shots. This one I like to call Henry as Audrey Hepburn .
