It is not a lack of love, but a lack of friendship that makes unhappy marriages.

This one is from a few months back, and very much showcases the porcelain skin of my pair of beauties! While Ezra and I are swarthy little fellow travellers, Henry and Jen have the skin of exiled Russian princesses...

The more original a discovery, the more obvious it seems afterwards.

Sometimes a man just has to decide which side he's on , and march in that direction!

There is only one principle of war: hit the other fellow, as quickly as you can, as hard as you can, where it hurts him most, when he ain't lookin'.

The Picton River rages. Tahune State Forest, September 2010. The Picton is not quite the raging torrent that the Australian selectors find themselves in today - you know you're in trouble when a grown adult who 'earned' a million bucks last year for i) not spinning the ball, and ii) getting hit for sixes has his dad doing your public whining for you - but an impressive little river nonetheless. Today's topical Sunday Top Five ? Five People Who Deserve To Be Picked In The Australian Test Team Ahead Of Dreadful "Spinner" Nathan Hauritz! Xavier Doherty. Bob "Dutchy" Holland. Dirt Girl (from Dirtgirlworld). That homeless guy I see drunk and staggering up Elizabeth Street each morning. That little Quentin bloke. You know the little fellow I mean. Squeaky voice. Stunted limbs. Smokes a lot of dope (allegedly). Yeah, him. I think that he's Ray Martin's love child through Jeannie Little. He deserves a run trundle.

It is almost the definition of a gentleman to say that he is one who never inflicts pain.

Here, Ezra and Jen set about re-enacting the entire three years of the Burma campaign in Tasmania’s rainforests. You’ll note Ezra there playing the role of Bill Slim himself, leading from the front!

When we are not sure, we are alive.

He is back in Tasmania!!! Now what?

There's nothing in this world so sweet as love, And next to love the sweetest thing is hate!

A message to the world: even when drinking your apple juice, keep an eye out for CROCODILES !

When the people contend for their liberty, they seldom get anything by their victory but new masters.

Henry does his best jive talkin' impression in the rain forest.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

One day, Henry is going to be taller than this Stringybark. One day.

It would not be foolish to contemplate the possibility of a far greater progress still.

Ezra points out a blackwood tree amongst the gums. Tahune Air Walk, September 2010. I'm all about healthy kids, happy kids and confident kids. Part of the (not very-) secret to encouraging the HCC kids trifecta is through modelling good behaviour . Thus, when word went around my workplace that volunteers were required for the challenging and fast-paced game of Touch Football, the guilty part of my conscience realised that I might have the best (as in easiest ) chance to model good behaviour in terms of "engagement in organised sport". So, last night I had my very first game in the Southern Touch League (Division SEVEN ). Henry and Ezra (plus Jen) came along as cheerleaders and moral support. They were also useful in scraping me off the floor at the end of the game. The most important lesson that I learned is that my fitness levels could do with some improving. I also figured out - about three-quarters into the second half - that it is better to run diagonally than in stra...

Woman was God's second mistake.

I'm not going rafting up the Picton River. Tahune Forest, September 2010. If anyone knows how one might best alter the tone and inflection of my elder son's carping, answers on a postcard please... Which brings me to today's Sunday Top Five ! Today, we're cataloguing Henry's Top Five Complaints! Yes, for a fellow still not four years old, Cranky Hanky has a long list of grievances that he likes, nay, needs , to share on a regular basis. " IT'S NOT FAIR !" " YOU DON'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME !" " NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !" " GET OFF ME EZZIE !" " STOP TALKING TO ME !" I'm still not going rafting up the Picton River. Tahune Forest, September 2010.

Innocence is like a dumb leper who has lost his bell, wandering the world, meaning no harm.

Henry has no problem walking above the treetops. Jumping , however, is another matter.

In a state where corruption abounds, laws must be very numerous.

Looking down the cantilever. Tahune Airwalk, September, 2010. For those not in the know, a cantilever is a beam supported on only one end. The beam carries the load to the support where it is resisted by moment and shear stress. Cantilever construction allows for overhanging structures without external bracing. If you've ever been on the three metre diving board, you will know what a mean. There's a bit of spring under foot and it sways in the wind. The photo below was taken 48 metres above the ground. The cantilever afford you an impressive view of the Picton and Huon Rivers, as well as the surrounding forest and mountains. Henry and Ezra loved the sensation. However, Jen was looking a little green after Ezra's attempt to get it pumping... The view from the cantilever, as the river forks in two. Tahune Airwalk, September, 2010.

A work of art that contains theories is like an object on which the price tag has been left.

Views from the Airwalk 1 (no spitting). Tahune Forest Reserve, September 2010. Have you every hugged a tree? If you do, remember to use protection in case of splinters! I've never been much of a 'tree hugger'. I'm more a 'tree patter on the back'. Trees are okay, but coffee tables leave less of a mess... Views from the Airwalk 2. Tahune Forest Reserve, September 2010.
