Setbacks in trying to realise the ideal do not prove that the ideal is at fault.

Lest we forget amidst the adulation for all things Henry that I have another son, dear little Ezra™, who is his own man and who is just as chic, clever, inimitable and downright handsome as his older brother with the cult following.

Like Ezra, I am the second (and youngest) child in the family. I understand being second off the rank can sometimes translate into second in the mind. Being second can be a tricky business and intend to help guide the little one through the trials and tribulations that inevitably accompany such a burden.

So I have posted this photograph of the sweetest little man of the house, to let him know that in my eyes he will always be equal first to me, never second.

You did so well in boosting also Ezra's pride!! You were the second line to the throne, I was also the second in line in my original family. Having an older brother had its advantages in my childhood. Then - and I admit - I had to fight my way up to be recognized as an individual, for what I was, and not as "that younger brother that had to be constantly taught what life was all about". Hurrah also for Ezra!

I was second, and youngest, too. There are, as is typical, about twice as many photos of my brother's first years as there are of me. I suppose the parents are no longer surprised by the phenomenon of a baby when more come along. But I always felt loved.

awwweeee!!! That is such a sweet sentiment. However, being the eldest in my family and the first baby of the wider group of extended family, I have always enjoyed the extra attention and rather childishly the contempt that those who followed me showed for always coming second. :-)

Dear little Ezra will NEVER be second best to us here...as Henry is my favourite Henry always...so too is Ezra my favourite Ezra in the WHOLE world!
He is only younger... not second!!!
I covered that one by always referring to Cody as my favourite eldest son and Zac was always my favourite youngest son!
You're just in trouble if you keep breeding!...mmmmm...favourite middle child???

I'd say Ezra has his own cult following already too.

Blognote, he was happy to see this post. I agree that there are significant advantages too in having an older brother (particularly when you start school), but even then it can be problematic. My brother was a bit of a smart alec, so when I started high school the teacher took one look at me and said: “you’re Jason’s brother, sit over there on your own and I’m going to keep my eye one you”, which was probably a smart move, but I didn’t even get the chance to do the wrong thing before I was punished! Terribly unfair.

USelaine, good to hear Uselaine. I always knew that you were a good sort!

Priyanka, I hope that you have taken advantage of your power and punished the smaller and weaker while you could! (I would have)... ;)

Sue, middle child would be rotten. No real angle to play.

Dina, I know that he has a huge following in Israel. I think that it’s down to the name, and that smile.

Lost inside an adorable illusion and I cannot hide, I'm the one you're using, please don't push me aside, we could've made it cruising, yeah.

Yes it is Theme Thusday again, and today we are talking GLASS . I've three possible hooks to hang my [glass] hat on with this theme. First, the photo! Yes, it is the river again from an odd angle in an interesting light. You can just make out the bottom, which should tell you that I'm right on the shore. In some ways, the distortion of the stones below the surface reminds me of ye olde glass windows, what they call "cylinder blown sheet glass". You can still find some of this around Hobart these days. Thw second link comes from a trip I took to Venice a few years back. You're probably aware that Venice was (is?) a glass-making centre of excellence. If you have ever been there and taken the tour of the glass factories, you might be familiar with the sheer amount of coloured glass that sits at the bottom of the water there. These fragments of glass have been worn down and had their edges dulled by their time in the water, which makes them ample keepsakes for the ...

Hold me now, oh hold me now, until this hour has gone around. And I'm gone on the rising tide, to face Van Dieman's Land

Theme Thursday again, and this one is rather easy. I am Tasmanian, you see, and aside from being all around general geniuses - as I have amply described previously - we are also very familiar with the concept of WATER. Tasmania is the ONLY island state of an ISLAND continent. That means, we're surrounded by WATER. That should help explain why I take so many photographs of water . Tasmania was for a long time the place where the British (an island race terrified of water) sent their poor people most vile and horrid criminals. The sort of folk who would face the stark choice of a death sentence , or transportation to the other end of the world. Their catalogue of crimes is horrifying : stealing bread assault stealing gentlemen's handkerchiefs drunken assault being poor affray ladies being overly friendly with gentlemen for money hitting people having a drink and a laugh public drunkenness being Irish Fenian terrorist activities being Catholic religious subversion. ...

Happy anniversary baby, got you on my mind

No it is not a webcam, but this photograph was taken a mere forty-five ago on my way in to work. Here you can see a good old fashioned Hobart autumn morning, with the rain pelting down and me getting drenched. This one was taken on the corner of Macquarie and Elizabeth, while I was waiting for the lights to change. Come on Ampelmännchen ! Today is my wedding anniversary, an apparently I need to be showering Jen with leather -related goodies. Va-va-vaVOOM! To you Jennifer, here is a poem I wrote this very morning. Anniversary I love you i love you iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou I LOVE you I love YOU iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou I LOVE YOU iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou Happy anniversary
