I'm not afraid of dying I just don't want to be there when it happens.

As I'm tidying up my back catalogue of photos, here's one from way back in the new year period of Henry and Jen ry riding the rails!

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand!

Drowned trees on the Don River Railway line, January 2010 . ...at least I think that they're drowned. I'm not really a tree man. I know people that love trees. They love trees a lot more than they love people. They love trees more than they love cats and dogs. Some of them love trees more than they love whales and dolphins. Some love trees about the same as they love whales and dolphins. Some love whales and dolphins more than they love trees, but they probably would never admit that. Trees are okay, but they're not high on my love list. I love pizza way more than trees.

I never expect to see a perfect work from an imperfect man.

The Orient Express. The Trans-Siberian Railway. The Deccan Queen Express. The Don River Railway. We've done them all one.

The gods look in pleasure on penitent sinners.

He looks very young here! This one was taken way back in January as we rode the rails up at Don River. Check out the grin.

Choose equality.

And yes, people, his skin is indeed as smooth and as soft as it looks...

I think I've discovered the secret of life - you just hang around until you get used to it.

I am still grappling with this darn blog layout, and regretting ever starting the damnable process! Look at what it has done, Ezra has morphed into a bored teen and he is only 18 months old!

For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

Dangerous? I throw back my head and LAUGH in the face of danger!

There is nothing more awful, insulting, and depressing than banality.

Sometimes the process of lining kids up for a photograph can be a more interesting photograph of some kids lined up.

We are tomorrow's past.

Occasionally I point the camera away from small children and try my hand at artsy fartsy photographs. I took the opportunity to snap a few moody black and whites (with dirt magnets in tow, of course) at the railyards at the Don River Railway. I reckon that the top one has a Dorothea Lange-vibe about it. Whaddaya reckon?

Artists must look beneath the surface and show that there is more to this world than what meets the eye.

The notion of visiting a train yard and riding the rails as a holiday treat might seem odd to those readers blessed with active passenger railways. Alas, here in Tasmania, we've not had any passenger rail lines active since the early 1960s! Thus, Henry and Ezra felt blessed to experinece the brief ride on the Don River Railway just outside of Devonport last week. Indeed, Henry paid a visit to the driver mid ride, and got to experience driving the thing first hand. As a bonus, we all survived! I will admit that I am a fan of rail. Travelling the tracks, the clickety clack, whistles and all that jazz fires me up . Anyone who has ever had the privilege of making love on the night sleeper from Venice to Vienna will know what I'm talking about here. However, we are here to talk Theme Thursday , and the theme is most definitely not “how to prevent severe leg cramping on the overnight sleeper from Venice to Vienna”. No, the theme is SURFACE. Which brings me to today’s photograph. T...

Break the skin of civilization and you find the ape, roaring and red-handed.

While journeying through the magnificent north west coast of Tasmania (the greatest coast in the known universe), we happened upon one of the world's great rail journeys: the Orient Express Don River Railway ! As you can see, Ezra spent a portion of his trip working on his dimples.
