Pain and pleasure, like light and darkness, succeed each other.

Henry at work. Geilston Bay. September 2013. The Winter Queen , Boris Akunin: A story of murder, suicide, deception and disguise that hurtles through pre-revolutionary Tsarist Russia. Crafted with care, Akunin weaves some beautiful expression and a series of exotic historical settings - primarily Moscow, Saint Petersburg and a quick jaunt to the seedier side of London in the mid-1870s - together with a wonderful series of well developed characters that really does feel like Tolstoy tackling a murder mystery. I loved it. A .

Humans live through their myths and only endure their realities.

D'ya think he knows?

Guilt has very quick ears to an accusation.

Keep working Henry, nearly at the top...

Those who do not complain are never pitied.

Look at Henry climb The Nut! Go on, look at him!

I have no money, no resources, no hopes. I am the happiest man alive.

Strawberries strawberries strawberries. Strawberries. Straw. Berries.

The truth does not change according to our ability to stomach it.

Harvesting seaweed? Easy!

Those who are at war with others are not at peace with themselves.

We need some new snorkels...

As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand.

Ezra whips Henry like a government mule.

The difficult part in an argument is not to defend one's opinion but rather to know it.

The fine art of the handwritten letter shall not die while Henry strides the Earth!

Hell isn't merely paved with good intentions; it's walled and roofed with them. Yes, and furnished too.

Silhouette. The office next to mine. October 2012. Wordless Wednesday.

If we did not flatter ourselves, the flattery of others could never harm us.

All are born to observe order, but few are born to establish it.

Here is a portrait of young Henry hard at work washing windows. We'll label this Candid head shot, classic focal length 100 mm with fast lens/ shallow depth of field . Or I could just call it Our 'enry washing the car . Either way works for me.

Metaphysics means nothing but an unusually obstinate effort to think clearly.

If anyone out there needs a car washed, I'm putting Henry out to tender...

Always desire to learn something useful.

Off-road scooting is the new buzz concept in our household. Our eventual goal will be to scale Mount Everest, and then make our decent as rapidly as possible (on scooters), with as little caution to safety and common sense as we are physically able. We shall film this endeavour and try and shift it onto some dodgy reality TV producers. Then I retire.

A fearful man is always hearing things.

So now he has a chainsaw, and is just cutting down trees left, right and centre. We don't have a fire though.

Tell the children the truth.

Ezra, as envisaged in a late-1950s BBQ in Kansas...

The pictures are there, and you just take them.

Arise, ye workers from your slumber, Arise, ye prisoners of want. For reason in revolt now thunders, and at last ends the age of cant! Away with all your superstitions, Servile masses, arise, arise! We'll change henceforth the old tradition, And spurn the dust to win the prize! So comrades, come rally, And the last fight let us face. The Internationale, Unites the human race. So comrades, come rally, And the last fight let us face. The Internationale, Unites the human race. We link arms and sing this three times every night before bed.

Those who say it can't be done are usually interrupted by others doing it.

For some reason Henry hates the nickname I've given him: Handsome Henry . Oddly enough, he seems to have no problem with my other staple: Cranky Hanky .

They are always saying God loves us. If that's love I'd rather have a bit of kindness.

We're at that wonderful point of a young man’s life when the overwhelming desire to be able to read and write begins to become all-consuming. Thankfully, Henry has thrown himself into the task with great enthusiasm and vigour!

Like all weak men he laid an exaggerated stress on not changing one's mind.

The Carruthers Building emerges from the mist of the walk to work. St Johns Park, Newtown. July 2010. Part One of the 100 Questions Meme! Just because: 1. ONE OF YOUR SCARS, HOW DID YOU GET IT? Left index finger, a nasty one right across the distal interphalangeal joint after a tragic accident involving an art room, a very sharp tile cutter, an attractive girl, a short skirt and inattention. 2. WHAT IS ON THE WALLS IN YOUR ROOM? There are a few artworks drawn by Henry: relics of when Ezra shifted out into his own room… 3. WHAT DOES YOUR CELL PHONE LOOK LIKE? A little robust Nokia. 4. WHAT MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO? All sorts. What a silly question. I have eclectic tastes. That said, I am not much of a jazz man. 5. DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME YOU WERE BORN? I believe that it was just prior to midnight, but to be honest, I can’t remember much about it. 6. WHAT DO YOU WANT MORE THAN ANYTHING RIGHT NOW? A bit of peace and quiet. And far less snot. 7. WHO DO YOU MISS? I miss Jen, Henry and Ezra when...
