By definition, a government has no conscience. Sometimes it has a policy, but nothing more.

By any other name. Battery Point. June 2013. Oops!

Literature is strewn with the wreckage of men who have minded beyond reason the opinions of others.

Walking home in slow motion. East Derwent Highway, Geilston Bay. April 2013. The Indispensable Calvin and Hobbes , Bill Watterson: There is a lot of good stuff in this compendium, unfortunately it is a little marred by an uneven selection. B . The Map As Art: Contemporary Artists Explore Cartography , Katharine Harmon: A collection of work from contemporary artists who have utilised the idea of the map to express their vision. Using paint, food, salt, souvenir tea towels, nude bodies, and a whole lot more, you can see how artists have been able to explore a world free of geographical constraints. B- . Doctor Fischer of Geneva, or The bomb party , Graham Greene: A dark little exploration of greed, desperation and hatred. It's as bleak as all hell. B .

Here freedom shrinks / to restlessness.

A fence is a fence. East Derwent Highway, Geilston Bay. April 2013. Fences? Pffffftt! In Ostrobothnia , Gosta Agren Here each town is a footnote to the forest's melancholy mass of text, here the horizon bares its teeth. Here freedom shrinks to restlessness. Here necessity grows into tranquility. One travels aways in an attempt to prevent what must happen. One stays here, and as the years go by life grows simplified until there are left only earth and sky.

Yet here's a travelled man that knows / What he talks about

Walking into town. Montpellier Retreat, Battery Point. December 2012. Politics, eh? The distribution of scare resources? Picking sides? Artform? Science? Maybe poetry holds the answer. Politics , WB Yeats How can I, that girl standing there, My attention fix On Roman or on Russian Or on Spanish politics? Yet here's a travelled man that knows What he talks about, And there's a politician That has read and thought, And maybe what they say is true Of war and war's alarms, But O that I were young again And held her in my arms!

here is the deepest secret nobody knows

By any other name. St George's Terrace, Battery Point. December 2012. Have a love poem. I hope that you have a love to go with it. i carry your heart , EE Cummings i carry your heart with me(i carry it in my heart)i am never without it(anywhere i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done by only me is your doing,my darling) i fear no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true) and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide) and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

I never desire to converse with a man who has written more than he has read.

Grey day. Princes Street, Sandy Bay. December 2012. As you know, the Internet is a wonderful place filled with the rich and varied treasures of the world holds (and RSS feeds.) The following are some things that I've had a look at in the last week. I call this: a Compendium of Click-throughs for Monday Morning... Headline of the year candidate: Woman arrested after trying to kill her boyfriend with her large breasts . National Geographic Photo Contest 2012. Antony Beevor explores both the past and future of Europe with the question: will a continent turn its back on democracy? Some interesting things happening in the UK: Google, Amazon, Starbucks: The rise of 'tax shaming'. How the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas and the Israeli right became co-dependents in an abusive relationship... Truth? HAH! The year in truth. “Homicide Victims Rarely Talk to Police,” and Other Horrible Headlines...

The sensitivity of men to small matters, and their indifference to great ones, indicates a strange inversion.

Duck, duck... goose? Back of Chinese Restaurant, Princes Street, Sandy Bay. September 2011. I wonder what exactly these ducks had done in order to earn their fate? Sassy talk? Collaboration? Attempted regicide? What are your thoughts?
