Always the beautiful answer who asks a more beautiful question.

Watch out for those spikey conkers! April, 2010 Theme Thursday and I'm surrounded by Lego Duplo. I'm trying to be funny, but all of my best material is a little BLUE for this audience.

Nature abhors a moron.

A pair of Eastern Rosellas spotted over the road from our place this time last week. They make a fine sight on a clear, brisk morning. My guesstimate would be that there are twenty or so pairs living within four hundred square metres of our house, so they can often be found. Things that are annoying me this morning: 1. the same old morons; 2. the burn I picked up on my right hand last night; 3. anti-vaccination idiots; 4. stubborn, hard to remove stains; 5. play dough.

Nothing prevents happiness like the memory of happiness.

What cruel , inhuman , rotten scoundrel devised this week’s Theme Thursday topic? One cannot express the dismay that accompanies writing a post about SUMMER , when it has been relentlessly raining for the past three hours. Oh yes, I shall write about summer, shall I? I'll write about summer when it’s dark when I leave for work, and it’s dark when I come home from work. I'll write about summer when it’s freezing in the morning waiting at the bus stop, and it is freezing when I wait at the bus stop to get home from work. I'll write about summer when it’s been raining when I leave home for work, it’s raining when I get home from work. I'll write about summer when the fact is that I hate work. I'll write about summer when, in their infinite wisdom, Metro Tasmania have decided that WINTER would be a good time to dick around with the bus routes to Hobart’s eastern shore, which entails standing around for extended periods – exposed to the dark, cold and rainy elements –...

The ox is slow but the earth is patient

Mein Gott , it is Theme Thursday already! Is it just me, or are Thursdays rolling around far more quickly ever since I signed up to this thing? As with every week, I have before me a challenge to locate an image that I have taken and pen some words around a theme completely independent of my choosing. As always, I’m struggling. This week? EARTH . So I have a photo that I like to think is pretty representative of the Earth. You have your trees there. Some clouds. The ocean. Some sand and rocks. You’ve got seagulls and molluscs. Grass there in the background too. That’s the kind of Earth that I like. But I got to thinking, which always spells trouble. If I am from this planet called Earth, and I’m happy enough here, am I able to identify as an Earthling ? Let’s face it, I struggle enough with identity most of the time. I think of myself as being from Burnie , and I have no shame in telling people that. I also identify (proudly) as a North West Coaster . Of course, I’m a Tasmanian befo...

Water, water, every where, nor any drop to drink.

Sometimes all seagulls need on Christmas day is a stroll along the beach and a long, wistful gaze out over the ocean. I would like to think that this seagull is ruminating on the often contradictory impulses of nature, the isolation of modern life or how to build a better mousetrap, but I'd wager it's thinking about sex like the rest of us...
