We cast a shadow on something wherever we stand.

Young love. It's complicated... Derwent Avenue, Lindisfarne. March 2012. Tuesday already? That means another Q and A stolen from Sunday Stealing! Today it is the The Last March Meme 1) Which TV character do you think you are most like? A heady mix of MacGyver, Al Swearengen and George Costanza. 2) What time do you go to bed? Early. These days I’m asleep from 9:30 pm to 10 pm each night. 3) What was the last meal you made from scratch? Dinner last night. A simple one though, sausages and a green salad with a Mexican tinge to it. I regularly cook, and prefer to do it from scratch. 4) What is your favourite type of music? This old chestnut again! I like all sorts of music, and my tastes are often dependent on my mood. I usually answer this one with “good music”. 5) In what position do you sleep? I usually sleep on my [right] side, facing the wall. 6) What is your first memory? I remember Kevin Bartlett’s last goal in the 1980 Grand Final, so with something to hang the memory off, I’d ...

I came from the wilderness.

Let's just ask Joel then, shall we? King Street, Sandy Bay. August 2011. Come on Joel, I know you're out there! Would you deface council property in such a wanton and appalling way? Wilderness , Carl Sandburg There is a wolf in me . . . fangs pointed for tearing gashes . . . a red tongue for raw meat . . . and the hot lapping of blood—I keep this wolf because the wilderness gave it to me and the wilderness will not let it go. There is a fox in me . . . a silver-gray fox . . . I sniff and guess . . . I pick things out of the wind and air . . . I nose in the dark night and take sleepers and eat them and hide the feathers . . . I circle and loop double-cross. There is a hog in me . . . a snout and a belly . . . a machinery for eating and grunting . . . a machinery for sleeping satisfied in the sun—I got this too from the wilderness and the wilderness will not let it go. There is a fish in me . . . I know I came from salt-blue water-gates . . . I scurried...

There is nothing insignificant in the world. It all depends on the point of view.

Do you see that wear on the leather armrest there? That was Ezra. Gnawing. I think that he's part beaver.

“Maturity,” Bokonon tells us, “is a bitter disappointment for which no remedy exists, unless laughter can be said to remedy anything.”

One of the luxuries of never having to drive is the advantage of having a nap without killing everybody .

Yes, man is mortal, but that would be only half the trouble. The worst of it is that he's sometimes unexpectedly mortal - there's the trick!

As I have already said, these men are New Man . Guaranteed 175% better than Old Man , or your money back!

What's in a name? That which we call a rose, By any other name would smell as sweet.

Here is Henry checking out a ye olde shoppe in the ye olde towne of Richmond. It was kind of embarrassing, actually. He went in there and said something, and from what I could tell, there seemed to be a heated discussion of some sort. I went in to check it out and Henry was telling the old woman behind the counter what a nice shoppe it was, how it would be "a real shame" if there was "an accident" or something. Then he knocked some fine china off the shelf, and she started crying and I hustled him out of the joint. We're going to steer clear of Richmond for a little while. At least until the heat cools down a bit...

Screams of the damned?

Here is a treat for the Henry fans out there: the big little bloke screaming all the while on a swing! This one is fresh off the presses and was taken just yesterday morning, as we went on a long hike to give Ez a better chance of sleep.

Against boredom even the gods contend in vain.

Life with a toddle can get - well, let's not mince words - boring. Here's a photo from way back at Easter where Ezra struggles to hide his feelings as yet again everybody stops while Henry goes about in his usual todderiffic way of wandering around aimlessly, chattering away like a mentally ill homeless person.

...this woman hates me so much...I'm starting to like her.

Here is Henry looking cranky while I try to photograph him colouring stuff in. I had the day off today, so spent the morning colouring in these blob things with Henry, and dare I say it, my efforts to keep inside the lines surpassed Henry's. That said, he's rapidly catching me. Later on, we found ourselves out meeting with some visiting theatrical-types. Of course, the dirt magnets got bored and eventually dragged me off to find something more interesting to do. We ended up charming some tourists from upstate New York, who were so impressed by the Henry and Ezra double act that they showered them with gifts all the way from the good ol' USA! These two could turn out to be effective little money spinners if I just come up with the right idea...

Prose is architecture, not interior decoration, and the Baroque is over.

By golly I have been busy today. To ease the strain, here is Ez getting in some early bull riding practice. As is the namby pampy politically correct norm these days, I couldn't find a farmer to let us use their bull. Insurance costs, they tell me! No wonder the world is going to hell in a hand basket!
