You must not mind a certain coolness from him

Ground control to Major Tom. South Arm Peninsula. August 2013. We're sending poems to outer space. Let's see if the aliens like them. Directive , Robert Frost Back out of all this now too much for us, Back in a time made simple by the loss Of detail, burned, dissolved, and broken off Like graveyard marble sculpture in the weather, There is a house that is no more a house Upon a farm that is no more a farm And in a town that is no more a town. The road there, if you'll let a guide direct you Who only has at heart your getting lost, May seem as if it should have been a quarry— Great monolithic knees the former town Long since gave up pretense of keeping covered. And there's a story in a book about it: Besides the wear of iron wagon wheels The ledges show lines ruled southeast-northwest, The chisel work of an enormous Glacier That braced his feet against the Arctic Pole. You must not mind a certain coolness from him Still said to haunt this side of...

Your theory is crazy, but it's not crazy enough to be true.

It is better to be able neither to read nor write than to be able to do nothing else.

Life underwater. Clifton Beach, June 2013. Once Were Warriors , Alan Duff: Very dark, very gritty. It's a far bleaker portrayal of life for marginalised Maoris in modern New Zealand than the successful film. Domestic violence, urban violence, poverty, drugs, alcoholism, unemployment, gang warfare, rape, physical and mental abuse, suicide, gender, identity, race and culture are just a few of the subjects explored in gritty fashion. Maggie: A Girl of the Streets , Stephen Crane: Urban grit, 1893 style! Originally refused by all publishers because of sexual frankness, it might seem tame to the modern eye but remains shocking enough. C+ .

Mount Wellington, as seen from Geilston Bay High School. July 2013. A relaxing Q and A today, the Sunday Brunch Meme . 1} Which do you prefer in the am: Coffee or tea? Coffee. In the event of a terribly sore throat and onset of the flu, I'll take a lemon and ginger tea please. 2} Work has been cancelled on the spur of the moment: Clean house and do errands, or just fun things? If the house needs cleaning, I shall do that first. Duty calls! 3} Middle of the hot summer, vacation at: Mountains or Beach? Beach, beach and even more beach! 4} You have to travel at a leisure speed: Train, plane or car? Train. I love the train. 5} To relax: A movie or a book? A book. I've not patience for a movie. 6} What kind of pets? Dog, cat, bird or fish. From the list, a fish. Preferably a large, man eating fish. 7} Dream home: Hardwood floors or carpeting? I like to look of hardwood floors, but carpet is better for living in. 8} a fun activity: cards, bingo or b...
