Note the lobster claw in his hand and the crafty seagull eye off said claw perched atop the rock.

Photography is about finding out what can happen in the frame. When you put four edges around some facts, you change those facts.

Lights camera action . ANZAC Park, Lindisfarne. February 2013. More questions? Of course! Stolen from Sunday Stealing, as usual. This week: The Back 15 Meme ... 15) How do you vent out your anger? Not very good, but I can manage the basics. 22) What did you do last night? Read and then slept. 23) What are you most afraid of? Irrelevance. 24) Plain, cheese or spicy hamburger? Blue sky. St George's Terrace, Battery Point. January 2012. This is a good poem to learn by heart and shout out to strangers in the street. The Fossil Fish , Christopher Middleton the fossil fish hides in time for now it is the season & all the hunters come with long clean rifles

Existence is not only temporary, it's pointless!

Hobart in the Spring. King Street, Sandy Bay. September 2012. This Sunday, my Top Five celebrates the fact that we have shifted our clocks! Yes, it is My Top Five Things That I Like Best About The Shift To Daylight Saving Time! It makes the walk home from work far more pleasant. It means that my usual wake up time of 4:30 am is now the [slightly] more acceptable 5:30 am! It saves on lightbulbs! It broadens the scope of my photography (especially when you're stuck at work for the bulk of the day. It supports my thesis that Western Australians and Queenslanders are simpleminded and needlessly antithetical.

Death is a very dull, dreary affair, and my advice to you is to have nothing whatsoever to do with it.

Listen up! Mayfair Plaza car park, Sandy Bay. September 2012. Wordless Wednesday.

After dealing with the Ruskies, Ezra makes his way to Székesfehérvár...

Ours is an excessively conscious age. We know so much, we feel so little.

Ground control to Major Tom… Top of Mount Wellington, Hobart. April 2012. This Sunday Top Five I am taking the opportunity to vent just a little bit. Yes, it is my Top Five Things This Week That Are Annoying Me (That Do Not Involve Children)! Hipsters. Or just anyone who is generally badly dressed but looks down their nose at other punters in the street because of their clothes/ haircut/ appropriately-sized eyewear. People who push in line to order food, but when they eventually are asked their order they don’t know what they want. Having to flick through all your tabs in your browser just to see which page is playing that stupid and annoying music so you can kill it. Forms that ask questions requiring an answer but don’t provide anything like the amount of space for you to adequately respond. When people say ‘literally’ but they really do not literally mean it.

'Moon!' you cry suddenly, 'Moon! Moon!'

Day of the Triffids? Quayle Street, the Battery Point/ Sandy Bay border. February 2012. A blue sky? It's been a few days since we saw one of those... Full Moon and Little Frieda , Ted Hughes A cool small evening shrunk to a dog bark and the clank of a bucket - And you listening. A spider's web, tense for the dew's touch. A pail lifted, still and brimming - mirror To tempt a first star to a tremor. Cows are going home in the lane there, looping the hedges with their warm wreaths of breath - A dark river of blood, many boulders, Balancing unspilled milk. 'Moon!' you cry suddenly, 'Moon! Moon!' The moon has stepped back like an artist gazing amazed at a work That points at him amazed.

The truth is often a terrible weapon of aggression. It is possible to lie, and even to murder, with the truth.

This ole house. Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm , somewhere between between Elizabeth Town and Deloraine. February 2012. Tuesday Q and A and I continue to steal questions from Sunday Stealing. This week I am stealing The 99'er Meme: Part 2 26) Are you happy with the person you've become? On occasion. It depends on my mood. 27) What's a sound you hate; sound you love? Hate: whining and complaining. Love: rolling waves. 28) What's your biggest "what if"? "What if I didn't...?" 29) Do you believe in ghosts? How about aliens? I don't believe in ghosts. I believe in the probability of 'aliens', but not the assertion that they regularly visit Earth and anally-probe Americans in lower socio-economic brackets. 30) Stick your right arm out; what do you touch first? Do the same with your left arm. Right: A Toy Story jigsaw puzzle. Left: Ezra. 31) Smell the air. What do you smell? Pain. 32) What's the worst place you have ever been to? There...

On a clear day you can see forever Henry...

We real cool

Jen and Hen tackle the dunes. Calverts Beach, South Arm Peninsula. January 2012. One day I would like to live right on the beach. Global warming or no global warming! I like a good short poem that strikes, makes its point, and struts away. Gwendolyn Brooks manages that here. We Real Cool , Gwendolyn Brooks We real cool. We Left School. We Lurk late. A lion is made up of the lambs he's digested, and I've been reading all my life.

The bus won't be far away now. Hobart GPO, Elizabeth Street. October 2011. Just the one book finished this week, although that was enough to push me past my nominated 85 book challenge at the beginning of the year (more on that later). This week it was Doris Lessing's The Fifth Child . Billed as a "contemporary gothic horror", it centres on the unravelling of a serene family-life upon the arrival of their fifth child. I'm not sure about this book. I think that I can grasp the key themes: modern society's drift from its more brutal past, the notion of a maternal bond, the authoritarian character and the thin veneer of civility. I'm just not convinced of the characters. I'm not sure how I'm to feel about the characters, and hope that the sympathy I felt for the 'monster' at the centre of the piece is a fair result. Nonetheless, it is a decent read and can be recommended. I'd avoid it if you're expecting a baby any time soon though...

The most interesting information comes from children, for they tell all they know and then stop.

Spring has sprung which means that [beach] swimming will not be too far away. Ezra can barely contain his enthusiasm.

One way, or another... The junction of Princes and King Street, Sandy Bay, September 2011. Another stolen set of questions ! 1) Who is the last person you high-fived? Henry. 2) If you were drafted into a war, would you survive. I would, as long as I didn’t sneeze. It is a dangerous business hiding under beds! 3) Do you sleep with the TV on? No. We rarely have the TV on after 7 pm these days. 4) Have you ever drunk milk straight out of the carton? Many years ago I did. 5) Have you ever won a spelling bee? Not to my knowledge. 6) Have you ever been stung by a bee? I stood on a bee once. Does that count? 7) How fast can you type? Reasonably fast. A beautiful brown like that found on Jersey cows. 10) Have you ever made out at a drive-in?
