Live out of your imagination, not your history.

Ezra can't jump puddles.

Power is not sufficient evidence of truth.

The letter is now at the censor's.

Snow Gum, Eucalyptus pauciflora. Lake Dobson, Mount Field National Park. April 2013. Marry me. Go on, I dare you to. To Friends behind a Frontier , Tomas Transtromer I I wrote so meagrely to you. But what I couldn't write swelled and swelled like an old-fashioned airship and drifted away at last through the night sky. II The letter is now at the censor's. He lights his lamp. In the glare my words fly up like monkeys on a grille, rattle it, become still, and bare their teeth. III Read between the lines. We'll meet in 200 years when the microphones in the hotel's walls are forgotten and can at last sleep, become trilobites.

Don't set your wit against a child.

A backward 2 and ½ somersaults with 2 and ½ twists in the piked position. In a storm.

How poor are they that have not patience! What wound did ever heal but by degrees?

So Christmas is done and dusted for another year. All we have left is to get out in the water, catch us a few fresh Orcinus orcas , fire up the barbie and we’ve got ourselves a traditional Tasmanian New Year Hāngi! Get to it Henry!

Men can only be happy when they do not assume that the object of life is happiness.

Cranky Hanky slowly carves his way through the scrub to the wonders of Seven Mile Beach…

I have read descriptions of Paradise that would make any sensible person stop wanting to go there.

I'm continuing to use up my stockpiled winter photographs, a foggy morning down by the waterfront can be seen above. That said, the morning THIS fine September morning is bright and clear, with the sound of the washing machine doing its magic as the line steadily fills up today. Indeed, I expect it to be filled with handkerchiefs alone, judging by the past week around these parts! Time for the Sunday Top Five . I thought I'd go a little educational today, and list the Top Five Moneyspinners For The Tasmanian Economy ! Tasmania has a reasonably diverse economy with lots of different exporters. In the main, we export to Asia, and Japan being easily our largest single receiver of goods and services. 1. Processed metals : here it is all about zinc and aluminium. 2. Tourism : and growing. As soon as Henry and Ezra hit H B ollywood, it will only grow more. 3. Manufacturing : a broad brush, I know, but we're talking here about textiles, marine machinery, automotive components, hea...

I'm now quite cured of seeking pleasure in society, be it country or town. A sensible man ought to find sufficient company in himself.

Yes, that's right, Henry climbed all the way up this slight incline mound hill mountain all by himself . He had plenty of motivation. Word on the streets that some old hag pop princess Madonna was spotted in the Lindisfarne area trying to buy stray kids. Given my keeness for early retirement, he better hope that I don't run into her.

Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil.

I love the river with a bit of dark cloud, the threat of rain and a hint of menace. It always makes for an interesting image. The thing that I miss most about my home town of Burnie is the regular appearance of torrential rain and intense storms with plenty of thunder and lightning. We just don't get enough thunder and lightning here in Hobart, and I demand that somebody do something about it!

The worker only feels himself outside his work, and in his work feels outside himself.

Work schmerk! Here is a closer look down towards the south eastern shore of the Derwent.

I like work: it fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours.

My apologies for the lack of commentary today, but I thought I’d share the pictures from yesterday's rather extraordinary day of weather . Here is the view south, down towards Antarctica at lunchtime. Compare it to the week before to get a sense of the haze. The wearisome excuse is that old chestnut: work . Yes, work is again out of hand and Monday is a Australia Day , where we are supposed to think about stuff like red dirt, grit, courage, determination and all that gear, but in reality it increasingly involves a bunch of pissed idiots in singlets draped in the [horrible] Austalian flag fighting and flashing their breasts. Consequently, the pressure is on to finish things on Friday.

Learning is not compulsory... neither is survival.

...Now bear in mind that we began out ascent of the great behemoth at 10:43 . We reached the summit at 10:59 . The snow started to fall at 11.10 . Our decision to abort the mission and leave in the face of gale force winds and increasing snowfall (as evidenced in the top photograph), was taken at 11:23. It was at this point that Henry turned to me and said - in a French accent, oddly - "Daddy, Henry a bit cold". So we headed back. Here is the view from Henry's window as we endeavoured to manoeuvre our way out of the pickle we found ourselves in. Even the normally stoic Elmo was a little perturbed by the tempest that had arisen around us. I will not lie to you, there were tears. A quick slap in the face from Henry calmed me down however, and we made our way gingerly back down to civilisation (via the bakery). To emphasise the shifts in weather, the photograph below was taken at 11:41, just eighteen minutes after the one at the top of the post. Finalmente! Having learned o...
