Showing posts with the label sleeping like a baby

As soon as man does not take his existence for granted, but beholds it as something unfathomably mysterious, thought begins.

Wouldn't you like to just give those lips a great big kiss?

An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made, in a narrow field.

No, there's been no air raid warning and as far as I know North Korea are not attacking. In fact, Ezra has chosen to sleep under his bed because of an all-too infrequent Hobart heat wave a couple of weeks back...

The moment a man talks to his fellows he begins to lie.

One benefit of sleeping with your door open is that it can afford a nice photo opportunity every now anf again...

Man need not be degraded to a machine by being denied to be a ghost in a machine.

[Please note: no poisoned apples were used in the construction of this photograph.]

“Maturity,” Bokonon tells us, “is a bitter disappointment for which no remedy exists, unless laughter can be said to remedy anything.”

One of the luxuries of never having to drive is the advantage of having a nap without killing everybody .

Now, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to stay in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast!

Here is Australia's littlest hobo having a nap. Isn't he adorable? Even moreso given that he isn't a) whining; b) covered in snot and drool; c) screeching; d) pulling my hair; or e) poking me in the eye.

Oh, how empty is praise when it reflects back to its origin!

This is the bit where I tell you that Ez is so cute because he looks like me. He's asleep here, and fingers crossed that the same will be true by the time this post hits the 'net!

A cynic is a man who, when he smells flowers, looks around for a coffin.

Sometimes a bloke can be a bit groggy when he first gets up. The mind is generally cloudy, reactions slow and muted. It's at this point that I like to shove a camera in someone's face.

Shall we make a new rule of life from tonight: always to try to be a little kinder than is necessary?

So we've bought this massive great bed for Henry months ago, but he prefers the cot. Meanwhile Ez is stuck in a portacot waiting for the cot to be freed up when hippie hair Henry moves to the big boy bed . I'm thinking Ezra will be in that bed first, myself...

We tend to scoff at the beliefs of the ancients. But we can't scoff at them personally, to their faces, and this is what annoys me.

Ezra has a James Dean in East of Eden kind of vibe going on here. No, there's no Cain and Abel subtext, and he's not even interested in fast cars, but at the very least, he's the right height! While Ez remains an ebullient character, with a foudroyant smile, a mellifluous laugh, has even added the fine art of waving to his oeuvre, his recent tendency towards equal parts wailing and sleeping during 'nap time' in the day is rapidly wearing thin.

If you drink much from a bottle marked 'poison' it is almost certain to disagree with you, sooner or later.

Man, our place at the moment is just like that Kevin Costner movie Il Postino , you know, the one with the post-apocalyptic dystopian word of Chilean poets in exile and Italian communists infiltrating the postal service. So, yeah, here is Ez getting in the mail.

No spring, nor summer beauty hath such grace As I have seen in one autumnal face

Go on then, here's another sleeping baby for your enjoyment... Henry has a new trick now. Every time that you tell him off, he looks up and somehow increases the size of his eyes by around thirty percent. He then blinks a few times to generate a teary-eyed appearance, and follows with "Henry loves you so much , Daddy". I would be appaled if I wasn't impressed at his early - however crude - grasp of emotional manipulation. He's a chip off the old block all right!

Most people are walking in their sleep; turn them around, start them in the opposite direction, and they wouldn’t even know the difference.

This is one of those "sleeping baby" things that you've probably heard about. Take a good look, it doesn't last very long right at the moment... And yes, Jen knitted that cardigan. If I'm not mistaken, it is a mix of cotton and (would you believe it) bamboo.
