I will tastefully avoid mentioning the child pornography in the background of today’s advertisement from less enlightened times, and focus on the young lovely in front. Now, yes she looks do happy and gay, not a care in the world. No doubt, this is because she believes the Coppertone promise that “a special ingredient” helps keep the skin looking young while you get a deep, satisfying tan.
Forgive me for thinking that this “special ingredient” is probably ‘naivety’, but I thought that I would utilise this wonderful resource that is the Internet and locate the young lady today. This being the Internet, all I needed to do was enter the appropriate coordinates and dates, and ZAPPO, there she is in all of her glory!

hehehehehehehe, she clearly gave up her contract with coppertone and is now the poster girl for anorexics anonymous!
No dnager of that happening here, not enough sun. I wonder if people get your humour. Chicks as a tag and feminism. I know humourless woman who would slam you for that. I'm not one of them, humourless that is.
Oh dear, that's a hard one!!!!
She should be living in QLD instead of Tassie, beautiful one day, perfect the next, isn't that what they say?
Pretty old lady to be anorectic I think. But she dresses bravely!
Sam, if there was ever a better argument against g-string bikinis, I’ve yet to see it!
Babooshka, I know plenty of women like that too, hopefully they know enough of me to recognise a fellow traveller. One of the biggest impediments to anyone trying to achieve anything is humourlessness (a word?).
Nathalie, that is indeed what they say about Queensland. I liked my one and only visit (to Cairns), they really are an odd mob up there.
Steff, yes, ‘brave’ is one word for it!
she should be living in Scotland rather than Australia!
Oh gross! Thank you, Kris, for sparing us the front view of that alte kaker. Feh!
Having just spent my first week back at archaeology work, digging 8 hours a day in the Israeli sun, I appreciated my sunscreen. Did the Aussie "Slip, slop, slap" thing.
But I do remember that Coppertone ad from my childhood in America. We really did spend days at the beach, "getting a Coppertone tan."
Then, who knew.
Oh Kris! The word slapper comes to mind when viewing this image! I'm quite partial to your humour really :)
I had to look up 'alte kaker', and it looks like I have a new addition to my vocabulary!
I think that I'm lucky enough to have been a kid right through the peak of the 'Slip, Slop, Slap' campaigns and have benefited immensely. I know that not everyone has been fortunate to be sent that message.
I remember one time at the Australian Tennis Open, where it was an intense 38 degrees Celsius and seeing some odd attitudes to the sun. Now, both my brother and I tan easily (Sicilian blood), but we were wearing shirts, hats, sunglasses, lip gloss and regularly topping up on sunscreen, we were planning to be out there all day long. Yet all around us were Swedes, Germans, Danes all shirtless, hatless, no sunnies. They weren't even using sunscreen, just baby oil. There's a recipe for sunstroke and skin cancer down under!
