EVEN MORE stuff that Jen has made: #3

Continuing the series that some very aggressive knitting enthusiasts frightened me into offering, a five day old Ez makes an appearance in the what I am told is a Clementine's Shoes Kimono and a little beanie that she appears able to turn out in less than a day.

This one has drawn plenty of positive comments from random strangers (you know, the drooling imbeciles who try and grab your week old baby in the supermarket), as well as some more polite people.

If you wish, the very nice folks at Clementine's Shoes have posted the free pattern for the kimono online, and I am told that it is knitted in Grignasco Bambi. This is a type of material which may or may not be made from wool cultivated from a freakish deer/sheep/alpaca hybrid.

Now, bear in mind that Jen has altered the pattern somewhat, in a way that I do not understand nor appreciate. I think that it involves the border or edging, but I will be honest with you, I tend to fade out of conversations about knitting as quickly as I do as those about cars.

I don't know much about knitting other than it requires wool, needles and an ability to read knot work from pictures.
I don't have any of those things or abilities!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOURS! May it be wonderful!

Thank you for the Christmas greetings.

May I take this opportunity to wish you and your family the very very best over the next few weeks and see you in the year 2009.

Take care and keep those postings rolling in.

Happy Holidays to you and your lovely family from an American spending this holiday in Paris.

Your blog is a delight.

Of course the subject makes the picture great, and Jen looks like she sure is talented, but I would fade in and out talking about knitting also.

I enjoyed your Christmas comment, I hope your entire family has a great Christmas.

Ooh I do like that, though I can't knit to save my life.

Happy Christmas to the whole McCracken clan - I'm looking forward to the festive photos :)

Thanks for the link and comment, and may I say: Excellent work Jen! Love the i-cord edging.
Don't know why everyone thinks knitting is so complicated or scary though...

Jim, Ez does have a tendency to brighten the room.

Jackie, lots of shouting, that’s a traditional Christmas from the McCracken clan.

Steffi, he is a pearl!

Diva, I don’t think I’ve ever met a Quaker. I know that they eat porridge and don’t like wars. I can dig that.

Di, good stuff! It is the implication of making a small error that does me in with knitting. I haven’t the patience.

Tash, she is certainly better than me at it!

Hold me now, oh hold me now, until this hour has gone around. And I'm gone on the rising tide, to face Van Dieman's Land

Theme Thursday again, and this one is rather easy. I am Tasmanian, you see, and aside from being all around general geniuses - as I have amply described previously - we are also very familiar with the concept of WATER. Tasmania is the ONLY island state of an ISLAND continent. That means, we're surrounded by WATER. That should help explain why I take so many photographs of water . Tasmania was for a long time the place where the British (an island race terrified of water) sent their poor people most vile and horrid criminals. The sort of folk who would face the stark choice of a death sentence , or transportation to the other end of the world. Their catalogue of crimes is horrifying : stealing bread assault stealing gentlemen's handkerchiefs drunken assault being poor affray ladies being overly friendly with gentlemen for money hitting people having a drink and a laugh public drunkenness being Irish Fenian terrorist activities being Catholic religious subversion. ...

Lost inside an adorable illusion and I cannot hide, I'm the one you're using, please don't push me aside, we could've made it cruising, yeah.

Yes it is Theme Thusday again, and today we are talking GLASS . I've three possible hooks to hang my [glass] hat on with this theme. First, the photo! Yes, it is the river again from an odd angle in an interesting light. You can just make out the bottom, which should tell you that I'm right on the shore. In some ways, the distortion of the stones below the surface reminds me of ye olde glass windows, what they call "cylinder blown sheet glass". You can still find some of this around Hobart these days. Thw second link comes from a trip I took to Venice a few years back. You're probably aware that Venice was (is?) a glass-making centre of excellence. If you have ever been there and taken the tour of the glass factories, you might be familiar with the sheer amount of coloured glass that sits at the bottom of the water there. These fragments of glass have been worn down and had their edges dulled by their time in the water, which makes them ample keepsakes for the ...

Happy anniversary baby, got you on my mind

No it is not a webcam, but this photograph was taken a mere forty-five ago on my way in to work. Here you can see a good old fashioned Hobart autumn morning, with the rain pelting down and me getting drenched. This one was taken on the corner of Macquarie and Elizabeth, while I was waiting for the lights to change. Come on Ampelmännchen ! Today is my wedding anniversary, an apparently I need to be showering Jen with leather -related goodies. Va-va-vaVOOM! To you Jennifer, here is a poem I wrote this very morning.
