Il ne faut pas s'offenser que les autres nous cachent la vérité, puisque nous nous la cachons si souvent à nous-mêmes.

Like his grandfather, Henry decided to get his very first tattoo at a young age. Like many a young man, this indelible stain was inked in honour of his very first love: apples.

I will be honest though, I am not fond of tattoos, piercings, ear shaping or any of that fandangled nonsense. I’m straight edge me. Decorative body modification just doesn’t rock my boat, it all seems a little bit, well, sad.

I’m not knocking other people’s right to do what they like with their bodies, it just seems so superfluous. Even worse, it used to mark you out from the crowd, send a message. Now – as Henry here demonstrates – everybody and his dog has got one (or five). I think not having a tattoo these days marks you out as different.

Really, should we resurrect corsetry, cranial binding or that old favourite, foot binding? Are people that keen for a bit of attention?

Have to agree with you here. Henry's tattoo is the only kind i like.
Nice to catch up with your week of posts. Good stuff.
Thanks for your visit and comment. Yes, you are so right. Being a live-in grandma for two little boys on summer vacation is a never-ending job. By the end of the evening, when Dean and Eyal are tucked in, all I can think about is heading for bed myself. No time for blogging or reading.
Makes me admire how you manage to raise Henry and Ezra, blog, AND read books.
G'night.

I'm with you.

I got a modest tattoo back in the early 90s. Thankfully I had the good sense to put it on my back where I never have to look at it.

Ever wonder what all these painted folks are going to look like in the nursing home? (Shudder.)

Looks like the little cutie is enjoying the tatoo, I agree I do not like Tattos and body art and piercing.

This is a nice little tattoo and I'm sure it can easily be removed. As for the real ones ... they are for eternity and I would never do that. I even regret that I have a hole for earrings in each ear. But that was my mother's decision when I was a child. It was 'in' at that time.
I think that Henry was born to be wild ;)

Lucky for him, having a temporary tattoo doesn't necessarily lead to getting real ones as an adult. I had all kinds of temporary ink as a child for awhile, and to this day I still have no real tattoos and no piercings of any kind. It's just a little harmless fun as a child.

Aw, he looks pretty impressed with his apple tat! I'm one of the last few of the un-tattooed!

I just can't help but think about all the young girls with their tats and piercings and the fact that someday they are going to be grandmas, yikes!

He does look very proud of it. Have you had any problems getting him in the bath now he has a tattoo?

yeah suuuurrree....
strangely enough, you were in my dream last night - you had a Flock of Seagulls haircut.
True.

Ok. Let me get this straight. The guy with the blog is accusing people with tattoos of wanting attention. Hmm

Dina, I think that we find new reserves of energy when we need them! We must!

Anonymous, very mysterious. I’m wondering what your tattoo is of?

Destitute Rebel, they’re all a bit gross, in my opinion.

April, I know people who get their babies’ ears pierced. I’m not a fan of that.

MurciaDailyPhoto, I agree 100%

Victor, he has a tattoo for the fruits and veggies he eats. We’ve got apple, cherries, capsicum, carrots and a pear.

Picture to words, and you’ve never been tempted to get one...?

Tanya, they’ll start to sag and the kids will thing the eagles on Nanna’s back are vultures.

Jackie, thankfully he likes the bath and the shower, so no issues there!

FF, was it a kinky dream? Was I in leather?

Flock of Seagulls haircut? I’ve done some stupid things in my life, but nothing that stupid!

Tania, I don’t make the rules Tania, I merely speak to truth.

whose truth?

Tania, I speak to a Universal Truth.

Ezra whispers it to me as he goes to sleep.

It's very impressive.

Lost inside an adorable illusion and I cannot hide, I'm the one you're using, please don't push me aside, we could've made it cruising, yeah.

Yes it is Theme Thusday again, and today we are talking GLASS . I've three possible hooks to hang my [glass] hat on with this theme. First, the photo! Yes, it is the river again from an odd angle in an interesting light. You can just make out the bottom, which should tell you that I'm right on the shore. In some ways, the distortion of the stones below the surface reminds me of ye olde glass windows, what they call "cylinder blown sheet glass". You can still find some of this around Hobart these days. Thw second link comes from a trip I took to Venice a few years back. You're probably aware that Venice was (is?) a glass-making centre of excellence. If you have ever been there and taken the tour of the glass factories, you might be familiar with the sheer amount of coloured glass that sits at the bottom of the water there. These fragments of glass have been worn down and had their edges dulled by their time in the water, which makes them ample keepsakes for the ...

Hold me now, oh hold me now, until this hour has gone around. And I'm gone on the rising tide, to face Van Dieman's Land

Theme Thursday again, and this one is rather easy. I am Tasmanian, you see, and aside from being all around general geniuses - as I have amply described previously - we are also very familiar with the concept of WATER. Tasmania is the ONLY island state of an ISLAND continent. That means, we're surrounded by WATER. That should help explain why I take so many photographs of water . Tasmania was for a long time the place where the British (an island race terrified of water) sent their poor people most vile and horrid criminals. The sort of folk who would face the stark choice of a death sentence , or transportation to the other end of the world. Their catalogue of crimes is horrifying : stealing bread assault stealing gentlemen's handkerchiefs drunken assault being poor affray ladies being overly friendly with gentlemen for money hitting people having a drink and a laugh public drunkenness being Irish Fenian terrorist activities being Catholic religious subversion. ...

Happy anniversary baby, got you on my mind

No it is not a webcam, but this photograph was taken a mere forty-five ago on my way in to work. Here you can see a good old fashioned Hobart autumn morning, with the rain pelting down and me getting drenched. This one was taken on the corner of Macquarie and Elizabeth, while I was waiting for the lights to change. Come on Ampelmännchen ! Today is my wedding anniversary, an apparently I need to be showering Jen with leather -related goodies. Va-va-vaVOOM! To you Jennifer, here is a poem I wrote this very morning. Anniversary I love you i love you iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou I LOVE you I love YOU iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou I LOVE YOU iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou Happy anniversary
