Pain doesn't listen to reason, it has it's own reason, which is not reasonable.

Here you can see the water taxi making a quick getaway from Sullivan's Cove one afternoon. I've not done so, but I could catch this one home, as it stops just over the road from us in Geilston Bay. If you can believe it, it actually works out cheaper than a road taxi. A bit pricier than the bus, however.

Sometimes I get very tired. When I am, very tired, I know that my patience shortens and that I am prone to saying nasty things.

Accordingly, because I know what can happen when I get very tired, I often choose to not say anything at all in order to avoid saying anything nasty that would really be about tiredness rather than nastiness.

Yet on occasion, people assume that to not say anything means that you must be angry even though you're not angry you're just tired and at that point the silence isn't about anger because you're not angry, you're tired.

Of course, the fact that people keep asking why you're angry even though you're not angry (you're tired) starts to make you angry. I mean, you're tired, and someone is accusing you of being angry when you're just tired and because you're tired you get angry and more likely to say nasty things because you're angry and tired because you're tired and you know that you're prone to getting short and potentially will say something nasty.

So in fact, you're quiet not because you're angry. You're quiet because you're tired and you know that you're prone to anger when you're tired.

You're quiet because you're tired and you want to keep the peace.

But people keep asking why you're angry.

The misunderstanding makes you angry.

The anger makes you tired.

When I'm tired, I can get short with people...

I think you Australians have talents for all these. Once when I was very young and watching cricket that was being played in Australia, I saw this (someone was carrying it on the ground and that's why the TV was focusing on it), and though that time I hardly knew English, but it was so fascinating that I still remember to this day. Your post today reminded me of that and here it is:

If you notice this notice, then you will notice that this notice is not worth noticing.

No way of escaping it - when men are quiet it has to mean they are angry...cuz when women are quiet, it is cuz they are angry...and quiet. Not tired. No quiet tiredness acknowledged. (good piece, I could never work that many quite/angry in a few short paragraphs)
The photo is really lovely - not at all painfull or tired or angry ... but it is quiet and happy. :) I'll stop. Sorry.

Gee...I'm gonna stop asking my boys what's wrong when they are quiet from now on! I always think something is worrying them...but maybe they are just tired too.
But I do wish they would tell me...and then I would stop asking. Maybe you should utter that one sentence..."I'm just tired and I don't feel like talking" and then maybe people will stop annoying you by asking if you are angry... thus avoiding making you angry!!??

KL, we tend to stew on things a bit. I blame the English stiff upper lip.

Hallam, but it all changed on Thursday!

I have the Statewide Youth Collaborative (SYC) Group on Monday, and that is NEVER fun...

Kylie, but I'm not angry, I'M TIRED!

Sue, if you say that, then you get drawn into a whole conversation as to why you're tired.

Colette, maybe by 2020...

And I guess you're too tired to have that conversation.
But I definitely will stop asking Cody and Zac what is wrong when they are quiet! Thanks for the heads up!

Lost inside an adorable illusion and I cannot hide, I'm the one you're using, please don't push me aside, we could've made it cruising, yeah.

Yes it is Theme Thusday again, and today we are talking GLASS . I've three possible hooks to hang my [glass] hat on with this theme. First, the photo! Yes, it is the river again from an odd angle in an interesting light. You can just make out the bottom, which should tell you that I'm right on the shore. In some ways, the distortion of the stones below the surface reminds me of ye olde glass windows, what they call "cylinder blown sheet glass". You can still find some of this around Hobart these days. Thw second link comes from a trip I took to Venice a few years back. You're probably aware that Venice was (is?) a glass-making centre of excellence. If you have ever been there and taken the tour of the glass factories, you might be familiar with the sheer amount of coloured glass that sits at the bottom of the water there. These fragments of glass have been worn down and had their edges dulled by their time in the water, which makes them ample keepsakes for the ...

Hold me now, oh hold me now, until this hour has gone around. And I'm gone on the rising tide, to face Van Dieman's Land

Theme Thursday again, and this one is rather easy. I am Tasmanian, you see, and aside from being all around general geniuses - as I have amply described previously - we are also very familiar with the concept of WATER. Tasmania is the ONLY island state of an ISLAND continent. That means, we're surrounded by WATER. That should help explain why I take so many photographs of water . Tasmania was for a long time the place where the British (an island race terrified of water) sent their poor people most vile and horrid criminals. The sort of folk who would face the stark choice of a death sentence , or transportation to the other end of the world. Their catalogue of crimes is horrifying : stealing bread assault stealing gentlemen's handkerchiefs drunken assault being poor affray ladies being overly friendly with gentlemen for money hitting people having a drink and a laugh public drunkenness being Irish Fenian terrorist activities being Catholic religious subversion. ...

Happy anniversary baby, got you on my mind

No it is not a webcam, but this photograph was taken a mere forty-five ago on my way in to work. Here you can see a good old fashioned Hobart autumn morning, with the rain pelting down and me getting drenched. This one was taken on the corner of Macquarie and Elizabeth, while I was waiting for the lights to change. Come on Ampelmännchen ! Today is my wedding anniversary, an apparently I need to be showering Jen with leather -related goodies. Va-va-vaVOOM! To you Jennifer, here is a poem I wrote this very morning. Anniversary I love you i love you iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou I LOVE you I love YOU iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou I LOVE YOU iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou Happy anniversary
