The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind. The answer is blowin' in the wind.

The answer blowin' in the wind, Mr Zimmerman, but where is the question? A celebratory Theme Thursday today where I eschew cheap laughs and steer clear of matters flatus and share with you a photo of a windy Salamanca summer's day. Today I advance the bold hypothesis that Mr Zimmerman may well have caterwauled that "the answer, my friend, is leaves".

Can you guess the theme yet? That's right, it's WIND.

So I was thinking Zimmerman's track, and was thinking what it was all about. Some poseurs posit that the song is nothing more (or less) than a series of rhetorical questions about peace, war, and freedom. The notion that the answer "blowin' in the wind" is merely a metaphor for the supreme "unknowableness" [the Germans will have a word for this] of such questions.

I beg to differ.

In order, the answers are:
  1. Eight.
  2. One.
  3. Trick question, the answer is never.
  4. Approximately fifteen million.
  5. Männer werden nie frei sein, bis er erst befreit die Rotkehlchen.
  6. Until the point that RSI kicks in.
  7. Once. [That one's easy.]
  8. Two. [Another easy one.]
  9. It depends.

So there you have it!

I'm on line, so many happy returns my son.
Henry and Ezra are both looking fantastic.
Looking at the picture, Henry is going to be too big to wrestle with Pa. I guess I will just have to tackle Ezra. They have both certainly grown in the last month.
Can hardly wait to see them both again.

Funny. If it is indeed your birthday, have a Happy Day.

Great picture. Yes the leaves are blowin' in the wind. I am not sure I get the other answers, especially the german words. But I will take you at your word that you are right.

If today is your B-day, I want to wish you a Happy Birthday to you. And many more.

God bless.

Dot-Com, William the Conqueror took his army through the north of England with his army and burns houses, crops, cattle and land from York to Durham, which results in the deaths of over 100,000 people, mainly from starvation and winter cold. So it was a dud year for them!

Felicitations and many happy returns! I heat leaves. I just blow them from one end of the verandah to the other . .every week. You'd think I'd learn by now.
Kris McCracken said…
Baino, maybe you should eat them?

Hm. I always thought #1 was a trick question, the answer being "zero." If a man (not a boy aging toward adulthood) is walking down one or more roads, "they" should already be calling him a man.

Great photo, btw. The in-focus depth of the shot makes it almost look 3-D.

Hi! Kris,
Thanks! for clearing that up!...because I posted Bob Dylan and Joan Baez, singing Blowin(g)
in the Wind
and Reyjr, asked me what is the "title" of the song referring to...
...believe me I'am not familiar with Bob Dylan and Joan Baez's music, but like I said, in an earlier post (here on your blog) I'am "big" fan of Bob's son Jakob Dylan.(Now on the other hand, if Jakob recorded the...)

Thanks, for sharing! and
Take care!

Lost inside an adorable illusion and I cannot hide, I'm the one you're using, please don't push me aside, we could've made it cruising, yeah.

Yes it is Theme Thusday again, and today we are talking GLASS . I've three possible hooks to hang my [glass] hat on with this theme. First, the photo! Yes, it is the river again from an odd angle in an interesting light. You can just make out the bottom, which should tell you that I'm right on the shore. In some ways, the distortion of the stones below the surface reminds me of ye olde glass windows, what they call "cylinder blown sheet glass". You can still find some of this around Hobart these days. Thw second link comes from a trip I took to Venice a few years back. You're probably aware that Venice was (is?) a glass-making centre of excellence. If you have ever been there and taken the tour of the glass factories, you might be familiar with the sheer amount of coloured glass that sits at the bottom of the water there. These fragments of glass have been worn down and had their edges dulled by their time in the water, which makes them ample keepsakes for the ...

Hold me now, oh hold me now, until this hour has gone around. And I'm gone on the rising tide, to face Van Dieman's Land

Theme Thursday again, and this one is rather easy. I am Tasmanian, you see, and aside from being all around general geniuses - as I have amply described previously - we are also very familiar with the concept of WATER. Tasmania is the ONLY island state of an ISLAND continent. That means, we're surrounded by WATER. That should help explain why I take so many photographs of water . Tasmania was for a long time the place where the British (an island race terrified of water) sent their poor people most vile and horrid criminals. The sort of folk who would face the stark choice of a death sentence , or transportation to the other end of the world. Their catalogue of crimes is horrifying : stealing bread assault stealing gentlemen's handkerchiefs drunken assault being poor affray ladies being overly friendly with gentlemen for money hitting people having a drink and a laugh public drunkenness being Irish Fenian terrorist activities being Catholic religious subversion. ...

Happy anniversary baby, got you on my mind

No it is not a webcam, but this photograph was taken a mere forty-five ago on my way in to work. Here you can see a good old fashioned Hobart autumn morning, with the rain pelting down and me getting drenched. This one was taken on the corner of Macquarie and Elizabeth, while I was waiting for the lights to change. Come on Ampelmännchen ! Today is my wedding anniversary, an apparently I need to be showering Jen with leather -related goodies. Va-va-vaVOOM! To you Jennifer, here is a poem I wrote this very morning. Anniversary I love you i love you iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou I LOVE you I love YOU iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou I LOVE YOU iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou Happy anniversary
