I think age is a very high price to pay for maturity.

Just to correct a vicious, vindictive hate campaign in the comments, while today is indeed my birthday, it is number thirty-two, not the forty proposed by the privately-educated (and thus spiritually and emotionally crippled) forty-something Hallam. As noted this time last year, 1977 was the year of my birth, not the far inferior 1969.

So, to celebrate me having eight years up my sleeve until the dreaded forty, here is a photo of myself, a battered fit and broken down healthy old young man with two little rapscallions in either arms and a duck just behind as I shift past Brian Epstein, Bruce Lee, Mama Cass Elliot, Karen Carpenter and Keith Moon in the years spent alive column.

I don't know, Kris...you could easily pass for a forty-something year old!!??!!
Just jokin'...you still look adorable! Although I like to remember you more as the young boy who is the same age as Henry!
Love that H is smiling in this pic...but what happened to Ez? He must be more used to you being behind the camera than in front of it with him!!
Hope you had a very happy birthday, sweetie! May the next thirty two years be as rewarding and happy as the last! I am sure your boys will make sure they are packed full of lots of wonderful things!

Happy birthday, Kris! May you — and your family — be blessed with happiness, peace, love and lots of fun always!

And just for the record, being forty-something doesn't feel any different from being thirty-something! ;)

Were they all dead before they reached 32? Blimey ...

Happy Birthday Kris - actually I must object, I think you'll find 1969 was a particularly vintage year.

That's 2 pics in a row with Henry smiling - I wonder what he's plotting?

Hilda, only your knees hurt more I guess...

Julie, well, they didn’t make it far past that mark! Quite a list!

Jackie, *some* people think that man landed on the moon that year... Henry is thinking global domination, but he needs to take over our household first.

Priyanka, he would good yesterday, until evening hit (as usual). I am up to post number 1139 now.

Haha! . . 40's a mere whippersnapper in my book! Love your babes in arms even if you're not 'quite' one!

Now I'm feeling really old. This means I was almost in high school when you were born.

Elaine, I am very, VERY old.

As for “smelling the pizza”, I’m tying a knot in it, lest we have an accident!

Yamini, 1977 was a good year. Jennifer was born then too (although as a January baby, she is much older than us...)

Ah, Joe, you never knew the whole of it...

I still have the robot on the job. Here you can see the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery . And here is a poem: Soliloquy for One Dead Bruce Dawe Ah, no, Joe, you never knew the whole of it, the whistling which is only the wind in the chimney's smoking belly, the footsteps on the muddy path that are always somebody else's. I think of your limbs down there, softly becoming mineral, the life of grasses, and the old love of you thrusts the tears up into my eyes, with the family aware and looking everywhere else. Sometimes when summer is over the land, when the heat quickens the deaf timbers, and birds are thick in the plumbs again, my heart sickens, Joe, calling for the water of your voice and the gone agony of your nearness. I try hard to forget, saying: If God wills, it must be so, because of His goodness, because- but the grasshopper memory leaps in the long thicket, knowing no ease. Ah, Joe, you never knew the whole of it... I like Bruce Dawe. He just my be my favourite Austral...

There was nothing left. No reason, no conscience, no understanding; even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, good or evil, right or wrong.

Here is a self portrait. I’m calling it Portrait of a lady in a dirty window . Shocking, isn’t it? However, it is apt! Samhain , Nos Galan Gaeaf , Hop-tu-Naa , All Saints , All Hallows , Hallowmas , Hallowe'en or HALLOWEEN . It’s Theme Thursday and we’re talking about the festivals traditionally held at the end of the harvest season. Huh? No wonder Australians have trouble with the concept of HALLOWEEN. For the record, in my thirty-two L O N G years on the planet, I can’t say I’ve ever seen ghosts ‘n goblins, trick ‘n treaters or Michael Myers stalking Tasmania’s streets at the end of October. [That said, I did once see a woman as pale as a ghost turning tricks that looked like Michael Myers in late November one time.] Despite the best efforts of Hollywood, sitcoms, and innumerable companies; it seems Australians are impervious to the [ahem] charms of a corporatized variant of a celebration of the end of the "lighter half" of the year and beginning of the "darke...

In dreams begin responsibilities.

A life at sea, that's for me, only I just don't have the BREAD. That's right, Theme Thursday yet again and I post a photo of a yacht dicking about in Bass Strait just off Wynyard. The problem is, I am yet again stuck at work, slogging away, because I knead need the dough . My understanding is that it is the dough that makes the BREAD. And it is the BREAD that buys the yacht. On my salary though, I will be lucky to have enough dough or BREAD for a half dozen dinner rolls. Happy Theme Thursday people, sorry for the rush.
