Fundamentally, American society is composed of individuals who don't go out of their way to do each other favours.

A sprinkling of snow on Mount Wellington. New Town, July 2010.

I'm not sure that the skiing up there is all that good.

Perhaps I should take an extended lunch break and take a stroll up there and see for myself...

Even if you ran I doubt whether you you would get there and back in your lunch break.

I was also struck by the quote from this entry. Then I thought about it some more, and as an American I'd have to agree in a de facto way. But as a fundamental belief, I don't think so. At least not for me. But maybe, just maybe, for a disappointing majority.
