Here freedom shrinks / to restlessness

Pole. 9/11 Bottleshop carpark, Sandy Bay Road. October 2012.

You can keep your blue poles, north pole, barber's pole, maypole, pole vault, landau pole, dick pole and whatever pole you like; we've got our yellow pole here in Hobart, and we're happy...

In Ostrobothnia, by Gosta Agren

Here each town is a
footnote to the forest's
melancholy mass of text,
here the horizon bares
its teeth. Here freedom shrinks
to restlessness. Here necessity grows
into tranquillity. One travels always
in an attempt to prevent
what must happen. One stays
here, and as the years go by
life grows simplified until
there are left only earth
and sky.
