We few, we happy few, we band of brothers. For he to-day that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother

A quote from Shakespeare's Henry V today, although it could just as easily be from Henry McCracken.

As you can see in the photos below, Henry was initially reluctant to pose for today's portrait of the boys in the household. This reticence stems from our refusal to pay him ten thousand Euros for the ten minute photo shoot. His argument has been that if it’s good enough for Naomi Campbell, it is good enough for him. My counter argument runs along the lines of "if Naomi Campbell were my daughter, she's be out back in the wood shed getting a darn good strapping".

Despite the lack of a good strong strap or a woodshed, Henry conceded that perhaps Naomi Campbell was not the best role model to seek to emulate, and that he would happily comprimise and pose for a small bowl of lime jelly.

Not happy with the next shot, we upped our offer to one small bowl of lime jelly and two smarties. This resulted in the following photograph.

As you can plainly see, the stress of negotiations have ensured that I look like one of those radio contestants from the 1960s who stayed awake for six days to win a portable black and white television set. Not my finest hour, I should say. That said, Henry looks sufficiently haughty and Ezra was as compliant as only Ezra can be.

A success? Moderately, I guess.

[Note: No blood was shed in the taking of these photographs. No animals or children were injured. One father was slightly taken aback.]

Hi! Thanks for the comment. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I've been in Colorado this week, and lacked basic necessities like internet. Actually, not having internet was sort of wonderful.

Those boys are adorable!

Oh my. How to synchronize that sleeping with two of them, I wonder. I hope this will be a handy tip for times when lifting a book and focusing are beyond considering: Librivox is a FREE website of amateur-read and recorded public domain literature. These audio books now total more than 1500 titles, and all you have to do is take them. Recording quality and reading fluency are wildly erratic, but you can count on anything by readers: earthcalling, d.e. wittkower, AGSec, or Cori to start. Go to the advanced search to enter a reader name. Or you can just go for a lucky dip.

Cheers, young father.
Happy moments to you, young father!!
Most of us have gone through this and, speaking for myself, enjoyed every minute of it.
I'm sure that, although more sleepless night may lay ahead of you, you will only regret that they grew up so fast!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Of course you didn't even mention the toll all the negotiating took on the estimable Mrs McK, who I presume was the long suffering photographer too! Perhaps the next time you go through this, you can up the ante further, with jelly and 3 smarties for Henry, and a wee dram for his dad, to erase the haggard creases from his otherwise delightful countenance!

:) Congratulations, it does make a success. Look forward to reading you again. Savor these days because they pass too quickly - my son is preparing for his marriage and only yesterday, he was my impish blond tyke.

Glad to see you boys are getting along so well. ;-) Glad to see you haven't lost your sense of humour under the stress of being a dad to two young lads!

Great and happy photos today!
Kris - was have lots of photos of the kids where we look just like you! Or, our eyes are open a little wider than usual - in surprise that everyone is actually staying still for two seconds for the picture.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Both of the lads were good today.

[Except the mandatory Henry violence just before bed, of course!]
Adorable boys, indeed!;-) What type of "strapping", exactly would you give Naomi?;-)))

Lost inside an adorable illusion and I cannot hide, I'm the one you're using, please don't push me aside, we could've made it cruising, yeah.

Yes it is Theme Thusday again, and today we are talking GLASS . I've three possible hooks to hang my [glass] hat on with this theme. First, the photo! Yes, it is the river again from an odd angle in an interesting light. You can just make out the bottom, which should tell you that I'm right on the shore. In some ways, the distortion of the stones below the surface reminds me of ye olde glass windows, what they call "cylinder blown sheet glass". You can still find some of this around Hobart these days. Thw second link comes from a trip I took to Venice a few years back. You're probably aware that Venice was (is?) a glass-making centre of excellence. If you have ever been there and taken the tour of the glass factories, you might be familiar with the sheer amount of coloured glass that sits at the bottom of the water there. These fragments of glass have been worn down and had their edges dulled by their time in the water, which makes them ample keepsakes for the ...

Hold me now, oh hold me now, until this hour has gone around. And I'm gone on the rising tide, to face Van Dieman's Land

Theme Thursday again, and this one is rather easy. I am Tasmanian, you see, and aside from being all around general geniuses - as I have amply described previously - we are also very familiar with the concept of WATER. Tasmania is the ONLY island state of an ISLAND continent. That means, we're surrounded by WATER. That should help explain why I take so many photographs of water . Tasmania was for a long time the place where the British (an island race terrified of water) sent their poor people most vile and horrid criminals. The sort of folk who would face the stark choice of a death sentence , or transportation to the other end of the world. Their catalogue of crimes is horrifying : stealing bread assault stealing gentlemen's handkerchiefs drunken assault being poor affray ladies being overly friendly with gentlemen for money hitting people having a drink and a laugh public drunkenness being Irish Fenian terrorist activities being Catholic religious subversion. ...

Happy anniversary baby, got you on my mind

No it is not a webcam, but this photograph was taken a mere forty-five ago on my way in to work. Here you can see a good old fashioned Hobart autumn morning, with the rain pelting down and me getting drenched. This one was taken on the corner of Macquarie and Elizabeth, while I was waiting for the lights to change. Come on Ampelmännchen ! Today is my wedding anniversary, an apparently I need to be showering Jen with leather -related goodies. Va-va-vaVOOM! To you Jennifer, here is a poem I wrote this very morning. Anniversary I love you i love you iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou I LOVE you I love YOU iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou I LOVE YOU iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou Happy anniversary
