Bait the hook well: this fish will bite.

So what would Thursday be without ‘Theme Thursday’? My keen skills of deduction tell me that the answer is ‘Thursday’.

The theme delivered from upon high this week is ‘fish’, which affords me the opportunity to revisit Henry's favourite part of the Salamanca district, the Tasall Salmon Shop. No, I’m not here to bet a snap of some lifeless wee beastie, but a bona fide, fair dinkum, fit and healthy feisty young specimens in their large salmon aquarium!

As you can imagine, getting a decent photograph of a pack of randy fish in an indoor aquarium can be a tricky business. This is compounded when you are dealing with an unlit aquarium, as is necessary with a fish like the noble salmon.

So my apologies for the poor quality of the image.

In the flesh though, they remain quite the attraction. Indeed whenever we are within a five kilometre radius of the joint, Henry begins a mantra that we are all now quite familiar with:
Henry see fishies now?

Henry see fishies now?

Henry see fishies now?

Henry see fishies now?

Henry see fishies now!

Henry see fishies now!!

HENRY SEE FISHIES NOW!!!

I have seen quite a bit of the fishies, now.

These fishies seem to have a keen interest in Henry as well.

Runmotman, I think that they want to eat him.

Salmon in Aquarium!!!?? Hmmm....aren't they too big to be put in aquariums? Are they for eating or just for show?
Kris McCracken said…
KL, they are the teenage equivalent I think. They're not too big and seem to get along alright.

I assume that eventually get eaten.

Well i think it's a great photo. I like the colors. I've always wanted an aquarium, but can't afford it because I'd also need to hire a cute smart aquarium boy to take care of it.
Kris McCracken said…
Avid Reader, would this boy be shirtless and well-oiled by any chance?
Kris McCracken said…
Diva, I dream of fishies these days.

As the proud author of a blog entitled 'The Spawning Salmon',* I tip my hat to you, sir.

*not salmon-related

That's like that joke, what do you call a Danish Pastry in Denmark? A pastry...see it's...and it's...tap...tap...is this thing on?

You must be careful...Henry's penchant for mantras could reveal family stuff you would rather your neighbour didn't know!
Kris McCracken said…
Bill, I was so disappointed to see that it was soccer and not fish porn on your site.

Les Ferdinand at QPR used to remind me of a spawning salmon.
Kris McCracken said…
Miles, "[tap tap] thank you... thank you... I'll be here all week."

Cinnamon, I think that I can trust him.

I have quite a few snaps from my trek to Mystic Aquarium. Unfortunately, they were taken years ere I got a digi-cam. This snap of yours is much better!

Well captured, Kris!

Looks more like they are falling from the sky or above.

Haha and Henry should have a little fishy on his little dishy ..very, very cute post! Salmon always look a bit grumpy to me.
Kris McCracken said…
Aigars, raining salmon? We could be into some money here!
Kris McCracken said…
Baino, they do free salmon tasting all the time in the shop, Henry used to eat the smoked salmon there, but he's gone a bit fussy lately (hence the excitement over the peas).
Squirrel said…
they look very well adjusted.

I dream of fish now.
Kris McCracken said…
Squirrel, Yossarian belives that fish dreams are really sex dreams.

Are they?

Very cute post indeed.

And yep, fish likes to drink..but always sober.

UH?
Kris McCracken said…
Candi, there's a W.C. Fields quote about avoiding the drinking of water because of what fish do in it that is very amusing.

Sorry I did not get here sooner.

Interesting post and am enjoying your blog.

Having been a single pop long ago, kids are always fun but a lot of work. It all pays off in the end ; )

Cheers!

Coffee Messiah, Jen and I switched yesterday, so she had Henry in the park, and I got to stay home with Ezra yesterday. It was good.

A salmon aquarium? Sounds like an oxymoron.
Nice shot. I can't believe my new camera has somewhere some setting called "aquarium." Maybe someday I'll find it.
Kris McCracken said…
Dina, they're only little salmon. And they come from farms anyway, so I imagine that they know no differently.

Did you use flash when taking picture of fish, as I get no indication of flashback.
Kris McCracken said…
Roddy, no, I wouldn't use a flash on water or glass.

Something unpleasant is coming when men are anxious to tell the truth.

This is the moon. Have I mentioned how much I adore the zoom on my camera? It's Theme Thursday you see, and after last week's limp effort, I have been thinking about how I might redeem myself. Then I clicked on the topic and discover that it was BUTTON. We've been hearing a lot about the moon in the past couple of weeks. Apparently some fellas went up there and played golf and what-not forty-odd years ago. The desire to get to the moon, however, was not simply about enhancing opportunities for Meg and Mog titles and skirting local planning by-laws in the construction of new and innovative golf courses. No, all of your Sputniks , "One small steps" and freeze dried ice cream was about one thing , and one thing only : MAD Now, I don't mean mad in terms of "bloke breaks record for number of scorpions he can get up his bum", no I mean MAD as in Mutual assured destruction . When I was a young man you see, there was a lot of talk about the type of m...

Hold me now, oh hold me now, until this hour has gone around. And I'm gone on the rising tide, to face Van Dieman's Land

Theme Thursday again, and this one is rather easy. I am Tasmanian, you see, and aside from being all around general geniuses - as I have amply described previously - we are also very familiar with the concept of WATER. Tasmania is the ONLY island state of an ISLAND continent. That means, we're surrounded by WATER. That should help explain why I take so many photographs of water . Tasmania was for a long time the place where the British (an island race terrified of water) sent their poor people most vile and horrid criminals. The sort of folk who would face the stark choice of a death sentence , or transportation to the other end of the world. Their catalogue of crimes is horrifying : stealing bread assault stealing gentlemen's handkerchiefs drunken assault being poor affray ladies being overly friendly with gentlemen for money hitting people having a drink and a laugh public drunkenness being Irish Fenian terrorist activities being Catholic religious subversion. ...

Ah, Joe, you never knew the whole of it...

I still have the robot on the job. Here you can see the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery . And here is a poem: Soliloquy for One Dead Bruce Dawe Ah, no, Joe, you never knew the whole of it, the whistling which is only the wind in the chimney's smoking belly, the footsteps on the muddy path that are always somebody else's. I think of your limbs down there, softly becoming mineral, the life of grasses, and the old love of you thrusts the tears up into my eyes, with the family aware and looking everywhere else. Sometimes when summer is over the land, when the heat quickens the deaf timbers, and birds are thick in the plumbs again, my heart sickens, Joe, calling for the water of your voice and the gone agony of your nearness. I try hard to forget, saying: If God wills, it must be so, because of His goodness, because- but the grasshopper memory leaps in the long thicket, knowing no ease. Ah, Joe, you never knew the whole of it... I like Bruce Dawe. He just my be my favourite Austral...
