Poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese.

It can be hard to escape Mount Wellington here in Hobart, especially when you have a halfway decent zoom on your camera!

Some things on my mind of late:

1: I don't know who Lindsey Lohan is. I assume that she is famous. Perhaps she is in the movies.

2: I'm not sure what an A-Rod is, but I'm not surprised that Madonna has had one down her pants. Let's face it though, what hasn't been down that well-trod path?

3: Can we finally stop hearing about Heath Ledger?

4: I miss Richard Pryor.

5: I like hot chips.

Lindsay Lohan is Firecrotch

You really don't need to know much more than that

And definitely don't buy the album

Kris I am so happy to hear that other people just aren't in the loop...And you are younger than me so it isn't an age thing...

why do these things matter to others?

I miss Richard and I also miss George Carlin. Chips are great but I must lose 20 lbs for the next son's wedding in July...so no chips for me!

Seems like celebrity news are big time on news there now for some reasons!? I have absolutely no idea why, but seems like all over the world news are becoming like this - celebrity news!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I miss Tim Russert. I don't watch "Meet the Press" anymore. . .

I also miss those "The Power of Cheese" commercials. They made me laugh. And that is a tough thing to do.

Hey Kris do you listen to poetica on radio national (yes i am a granny)? Today's poet was Joanne Burns, a fan of list poems. Her writing reminded me of yours a bit. Think they do a podcast of the show.

I'm disturbed by the term firecrotch, used by miles. I hope I can unlearn it.

I think Lindsay Lohan actually started out in Disney movies as a kid. The only thing I've ever seen her in was the Prairie Home Companion movie, as the daughter of Meryl Streep. So yeah, an actress. The publicity I can do without.

I used to see Benny Hill on cable and then watched them all the second time around and then they substituted something and I still miss the Benny Hill show. I don't know any of the new people like I am unaware what cars look like Fords and which are Chevys. I no longer care if my hair is parted or my pants are on backwards as long as I can get them down.

Life at almost 74 deserves some latitude.

Miles, so she's literally embraced Elvis' notion of Burnin' Love?

Colette, Carlin is missed here too. I do like Louis C.K. though, and he's not too old.

Last night I switched the news off when they gave three minutes to a dress that Obama's wife wore. "OMG, no sleeves!"

Stop the presses indeed.

KL, it's not even like they concentrate on talented celebrities!

Kylie, you've given me an idea!

Whirligigdaisy, "Meet the Press" hosted by Hulk Hogan, that's what the world needs!

Blackie, I have had bad experiences meeting poets in person. That could just the the UTas English Department though.

I am intrigued by what it is that disturbs you about the concept of a 'firecrotch'? Dare I ask the Pauline Hanson question?

I am interpreting it as someone with some nasty inflammation in their nether-regions. Is Ms Lohan a readhed perhaps? Maybe that's what it means.

Celebrity news is the single area in life that I wear my ignorance as a badge of pride.

Elaine, she has very much passed me by.

Unless they've been on Sesame Street lately, I'm bound to have missed it.

That R'n'B bloke that bashed that R'n'B sheila was in the news and I'm, "is that the guy who was singing about traffic signs with Elmo?"

Elmo would not be impressed with that kind of carry on.

Pat and Abe, they don't show Benny Hill around here any more. It upsets Germaine Greer.

I think that 74 deserves latitude too.

Kris, I am sure you know more about all this than you realise. People these days know lots more than they want to as the media saturates the airwaves with unnecessary trivia about unnecessary trash! I know I know far more than I really want to because my brain just soaks up a lot of crap without me wanting it to. It's like when a really awful song comes on the radio and you realise you know every word, even though you have always hated the damn thing!
I have tickets to see Cheech and Chong in April. I hope they are still as funny as I thought they were in the 70's...and it was nothing to do with all those hallucinogens that may or may have not been taken then!!!!!
Don't forget the unforgettable "Ode on the Mammoth Cheese Weighing over 7,000 Pounds" by James McIntyre

I relented and had hot chips yesterday. God they were magnificent. You remind me of me when I had toddlers . . a wasteland without Hollywood gossip. Far too busy with Play School and obsessing about which window would be looked through that day.

I love that you don't know who Lohan is. Good for you! A-Rod comment: priceless, I love it!

Mark and I miss Richard Pryor also.
Kris McCracken said…
Sue, I wonder if Dave will be at Cheech and Chong?

Wasn't Tommy in prison for selling bongs?
Kris McCracken said…
Richard, I'm going to look that one up right now.
Kris McCracken said…
Baino, if I wasn't already married, and the state allowed it, I'd marry hot chips.

Thiên, do you know Ms Lohan?

That's the Wellington I remember seeing in 1970, only she was covered in snow then.
Kris McCracken said…
Roddy, there wouldn't have been the viewing platform, surely!

Nor those great towers either, if I remember correctly.
Kris McCracken said…
Roddy, it was no doubt before they invented television or radio.

Hold me now, oh hold me now, until this hour has gone around. And I'm gone on the rising tide, to face Van Dieman's Land

Theme Thursday again, and this one is rather easy. I am Tasmanian, you see, and aside from being all around general geniuses - as I have amply described previously - we are also very familiar with the concept of WATER. Tasmania is the ONLY island state of an ISLAND continent. That means, we're surrounded by WATER. That should help explain why I take so many photographs of water . Tasmania was for a long time the place where the British (an island race terrified of water) sent their poor people most vile and horrid criminals. The sort of folk who would face the stark choice of a death sentence , or transportation to the other end of the world. Their catalogue of crimes is horrifying : stealing bread assault stealing gentlemen's handkerchiefs drunken assault being poor affray ladies being overly friendly with gentlemen for money hitting people having a drink and a laugh public drunkenness being Irish Fenian terrorist activities being Catholic religious subversion. ...

But when the strong were too weak to hurt the weak, the weak had to be strong enough to leave.

Can you believe that it is time for Theme Thursday already? Today we are not talking chocolate , toddlers , mess or ignominy . No, today we're dealing with ANIMAL . Now I could have posted a picture of a possum, numbat, wombat, wallaby or any other furry killing machine that roams our fair isle, but I figure that I'd use a far more deadly creature as an example of an animal . Some people - I know them as fools - have chosen to embrace that highfalutin idea that human beans are for some ungodly reason superior to animals. Of course, what these imbeciles seem to forget is that were are simple animals ourselves ! Anyone with a baby, toddler, teenage boy or Queenslander in their household could tell you this. Look at Henry [above]. One chocolate frog in the back of the car on a sunny day and all of a sudden it's Elagabalus meets Bacchus for a quick shandy in the Serengeti and we're down on all fours carrying on like a cat in heat. Fair dinkum, anyone who chooses to ...

Something unpleasant is coming when men are anxious to tell the truth.

This is the moon. Have I mentioned how much I adore the zoom on my camera? It's Theme Thursday you see, and after last week's limp effort, I have been thinking about how I might redeem myself. Then I clicked on the topic and discover that it was BUTTON. We've been hearing a lot about the moon in the past couple of weeks. Apparently some fellas went up there and played golf and what-not forty-odd years ago. The desire to get to the moon, however, was not simply about enhancing opportunities for Meg and Mog titles and skirting local planning by-laws in the construction of new and innovative golf courses. No, all of your Sputniks , "One small steps" and freeze dried ice cream was about one thing , and one thing only : MAD Now, I don't mean mad in terms of "bloke breaks record for number of scorpions he can get up his bum", no I mean MAD as in Mutual assured destruction . When I was a young man you see, there was a lot of talk about the type of m...
