Here is a special Good Friday good sunrise over the Derwent looking east.
So it is Good Friday again. I love Good Friday. You have to wonder what old Jesus was thinking when he got up that morning. Did he think that he was going to have a good Friday? Was he disappointed?
I would be.
I have been explaining the concept of Easter to Henry.
"There was this guy, and some chickens, and some rabbits. There was some argument about something. I think that it was over chocolate. And eggs. This guy's father wasn't happy. It had something to do with fish as well. Chocolate fish eggs maybe. Anyway, the rabbit eventually must have won and this chicken got nailed to this guy. His father wanted to prove a point. Because he sinned. Or something. The father sounded like a bit of an arse actually. Nailed them to a cross I think. Something like that. So we eat chocolate eggs delivered by rabbits in bonnets and there's nothing good on TV."
I don't understand it either.

A fascinating question and probing question. You should do a survey and find it out and let us know the result.
Now the question is: did Henry understand it? Then all problem solved.
Well thanks for the explanation because I never could work out how the poor chap got nailed on a different day each year! Beautiful shot by the way.
Bill Hicks
This made me laugh! Thankyou.
If Henry understood this then the world is flat... I could make no sense whatsoever out of it... But... it made me laugh! hopefully Henry chuckled at it too.
KL, it has something to do with eggs. That’s all Henry knows.
Baino, imagine nailing your own son to a cross to prove a point! Fair dinkum, dude could have done the whole bread and fishes thing again…
Aigars, yes it was. Between you and me though, I’ve never found him that funny. He just reminds me of a loudmouth uni student with a too simplistic take on the world who thinks himself smarter than everybody else.
That is the chicken, that’s quite all right…
Priyanka, Henry just nodded thoughtfully.
I wonder if Henry understood it better than we did.
The wearing of the cross is not about his dying on one, it is about 'why' he died on the cross for us.
So, I wear one to remind me to behave and that he loved us enough to do this for us. So I think I mostly wear it to say that I love Jesus and God. Plus if the terrorists want to find me in a crowd it will be easier for them to do it.
Hope the wee ones have a great Easter and the goodies are yummy.
God bless.
I think henry had the best explanation ever !! Beautiful shot !
Ah here we go.See that's what I've been wondering for years now.I thought i was the only one to think like that.I know wearing a cross is a way to remember how he has suffered for us and I have no problem with people wearing it at all. When i was a teenager i collected them but then again it has more to do with the fact that I was a big fan of Madonna i think.I still have them but I stopped wearing them because I thought that in fact the cross was a way to kill people at that time,so therefore it is a symbol of death no?Besides I think Jesus wants us more to celebrate life instead of death. No?Well it is something I do not want to wear anymore.I have opted fot the cross of life, the egyptien one,the key.
Very beautiful too.
Besides there aren't so many vampires around where I live,so that's cool I guess...a question do you think vampires are scared of crosses?Na,I don't think so!:)
I don't understand it either, everything has just been a tradition maybe? All I know is that Jesus made the greatest sacrifice of all and that is what good Friday and Easter Sunday is all about:-)
Kris,
I've got a good chuckle out of this post today and so have my blog readers as I directed them your way..my only dissapointment was that I offended one of my co-workers by sharing this post with her...
Great explanation for Easter. Made sense to me.
Beautiful shot of the sun.
Now every time I see a pilgrim or clergy wearing a cross in Jerusalem, I think of your quotation here.
Mrsupole, it has been a reasonable Easter thus far. The line about the cross was a cheap Bill Hick gag. Dime a dozen!
Babzy, it still doesn’t make sense about the rabbits.
Candie, does a cross count as jewellery? I don’t wear jewellery. Crosses are too bulky anyway! Those rosary beads are cool though.
Kim-QOAS, that’s what they say. There is also the Northern Hemisphere shift into Spring that the early church co-opted.
Findingmywingsinlife, some people appear to live to be offended. I’m offended by people getting offended all the time.
G, too right. I’m just tryin’ to keep it real, G.
Dina, poor Jesus. He got a rough deal.
The question in the title is thought-provoking, not just in the context of Jesus but of all of those who give preference to religion over humanity.
And I don't think that Jesus would want to look at another cross.
Yamini, I wish that people just got along, whatever they believe in.
