We live in a world of things, and our only connection with them is that we know how to manipulate or to consume them.

So it is Theme Thursday again, and when this post appears I shall be sitting at the desk I have photographed above wishing that I was anywhere but here. The theme then, is apt: VACATION. The trouble - of course - is that what I really need is a permanent and everlasting and everlasting one!

Two weeks is not enough. Hell, two YEARS is not enough. I want to retire right now!

You see, my problem is a familiar tale: I've become alienated from my Gattungswesen. It turns out that Marx was right! I can never truly become an autonomous, self-realised human being, except the way that the bourgeois want me - the worker bee - to be realised. Moreover, I don't blame the capitalist, not at all. My J'accuse! is firmly pointed in the direction of the sort of do nothing do gooders who not only tolerate, but perpetuate mediocrity in their monotonous, wretched and insipid insistence that ‘merit’ equals ‘time served’.

I'm jammed stuck inside this stahlhartes Gehäuse - which, incidentally is not an iron cage - but to be frank it damn sure feels like one right now!

I don't want to interface with stakeholders. You can stick your predictors of beaconicity where you first noticed your slippage (oooh er missus), and I honestly do hope that the throughput is a holistic experience for you, because I need a break. One doesn't action, task or enable a person in the real world, the paradigm is dead brother so move on.

If anyone is looking for me, I am the one in the toilet, crying...

Brian, it's the terrible thing though, isn't it? Having a job can be horrible and awful and soul destroying, yet having no job can be worse!

Wow, a tidy desk. Looks nothing like the one you have at home.
My son you only have thirty more years, now that the Government has given us the right to work until 67.
Think of your father, he has already put in 44 years. That isn't counting the years as a paperboy nor cleaner after school. Bite the bullet.

Roddy, while suicide is indeed an option, I do have two young sons to think of...

Nothing that a bit of velocity and restructuring with a little aggressive pursuit of excellence won't fix.
Like the pics of the kiddies and you've got a WINDOW!!!

PS - did you post the big hand/little hand shot before? It's adorable.
Kris McCracken said…
Tash, I have two windows!

But a rotten job...

You forgot to mention that the emergence of global synergy leverages a coherent growth alignment! ;)

I have a vague feeling that you need to get away for a while?

here's 2 options:

1. they always need more interviewers for the IDRS, or,
2. you could always finish the thesis.

Nice Thursday theme and damn nice vocabulary. But tell me, are you seriously trying to show off or is this a way of intimidating us??

:-))

Ur desk looks nice in a photograph, just like mine looks when i am sharing it with friends. But when one has to sit at it and, WORK, that is when it becomes really painful...

But you are again right, having no job is worse than having a job that one hates.

Seriously, Roddy...when were you a cleaner after school??? Was that before or after you walked barefoot in the snow without shoes for fifty miles...????

As much as I enjoyed the post itself, I think I liked this line even more!

Baino, they talk like that to try and hide the fact that they have nothing to say and contribute nothing to addressing problems.
Kris McCracken said…
Jaime, it must be catching!

The Silver Fox, as I said before, it is a cruel irony.
Hi! Kris,
"I can never truly become an autonomous, self-realised human being, except the way that the bourgeois want me - the worker bee..."Your quote above kind of, reminds me of the something that the character in author George Orwell's novel 1984 would probably say...
hmmm...a very interesting TT post...Thanks, for sharing!

DeeDee, I'm echoing Marx there. My angle is very much like the Frankfurt School of Neo-Marxists, only it isn't the immediate post-war period, and I'm not German OR Jewish.

Ah, Joe, you never knew the whole of it...

I still have the robot on the job. Here you can see the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery . And here is a poem: Soliloquy for One Dead Bruce Dawe Ah, no, Joe, you never knew the whole of it, the whistling which is only the wind in the chimney's smoking belly, the footsteps on the muddy path that are always somebody else's. I think of your limbs down there, softly becoming mineral, the life of grasses, and the old love of you thrusts the tears up into my eyes, with the family aware and looking everywhere else. Sometimes when summer is over the land, when the heat quickens the deaf timbers, and birds are thick in the plumbs again, my heart sickens, Joe, calling for the water of your voice and the gone agony of your nearness. I try hard to forget, saying: If God wills, it must be so, because of His goodness, because- but the grasshopper memory leaps in the long thicket, knowing no ease. Ah, Joe, you never knew the whole of it... I like Bruce Dawe. He just my be my favourite Austral...

There was nothing left. No reason, no conscience, no understanding; even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, good or evil, right or wrong.

Here is a self portrait. I’m calling it Portrait of a lady in a dirty window . Shocking, isn’t it? However, it is apt! Samhain , Nos Galan Gaeaf , Hop-tu-Naa , All Saints , All Hallows , Hallowmas , Hallowe'en or HALLOWEEN . It’s Theme Thursday and we’re talking about the festivals traditionally held at the end of the harvest season. Huh? No wonder Australians have trouble with the concept of HALLOWEEN. For the record, in my thirty-two L O N G years on the planet, I can’t say I’ve ever seen ghosts ‘n goblins, trick ‘n treaters or Michael Myers stalking Tasmania’s streets at the end of October. [That said, I did once see a woman as pale as a ghost turning tricks that looked like Michael Myers in late November one time.] Despite the best efforts of Hollywood, sitcoms, and innumerable companies; it seems Australians are impervious to the [ahem] charms of a corporatized variant of a celebration of the end of the "lighter half" of the year and beginning of the "darke...

In dreams begin responsibilities.

A life at sea, that's for me, only I just don't have the BREAD. That's right, Theme Thursday yet again and I post a photo of a yacht dicking about in Bass Strait just off Wynyard. The problem is, I am yet again stuck at work, slogging away, because I knead need the dough . My understanding is that it is the dough that makes the BREAD. And it is the BREAD that buys the yacht. On my salary though, I will be lucky to have enough dough or BREAD for a half dozen dinner rolls. Happy Theme Thursday people, sorry for the rush.
