A writer is somebody for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people.

Here you can see the location of the world famous Hobart Real Tennis Club. No, it's not like Real Madrid, it's Real Tennis, or as I like to call it: Real[ly stupid] Tennis!

Even better, the court is located in an old brewery!

I have one more thing to say:
I DON'T CARE ABOUT BRAD PITT AND I HATE ANGELINA JOLIE SO FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE STOP PUTTING THEM ON THE NEWS!!!!

I don't care about both but yes they are way too much on the news these days. But this phenomenon (rather, crazy phenomenon!!) is not particular to the Western media. Here in India too, we have an overdose of celebrity news and views and images all the time. And most of the times, there is just no news in it, only pictures,,,,,

Sometimes, I wish we could turn back to the times when we had little television and more outdoors in our lives.

The picture is Real Nice!! Reminds me of a street back home in Jammu and Kashmir, where there were similar-coloured buildings with sloping roofs. The colour comes through in your picture as well.

by the way, how are you and Jen and Henry and Ezra? couldnt be regular this past week so, waiting for new pictures of all four of you :-))

Isn't that the one where players get to bounce the ball off the walls & into holes & it uses slightly-weird-shaped raquets? I always thought of it as the tennis world's equivalent to backyard cricket for rainy days...or the idle rich...

I love your quote, Kris. Anybody can write but those who write well are the ones who realise how difficult it really is and why some people (bosses, Mercury correspondents, etc) SHOULDN'T be encouraged to write...

I played a game of real tennis in that building once - or more accurately I stood with the weird shaped racket in my hand watching the ball zing past me while I tried to figure out the rules.

A great quotation.

Nice posts all week too. Sorry, it's hard for me to write, even comments. (Does that make me a "writer"?)

I got absolutely smashed in that place...

Was it smashed at Real Franco (Barcelona man) Tennis, or drunk? Who could tell...

Yamini, I only really see the TV in the morning before work to get the news headlines, but there’s never any real news, just gossip!

Yamini, I couldn’t be regular all week either. I’ve struggled to find time to post anything.
Kris McCracken said…
Me, I think of it as “Ye Olde Tennis” or “Tennis Before They Livened It Up”.
Kris McCracken said…
Beth, the bloody Mercury, how I hate it!
Kris McCracken said…
Dina, if you’ve ever written anything, I think that you can call yourself a writer.
Kris McCracken said…
Miles, I hate Real Madrid *almost* as much as the Mercury. I’ve never been in the Real Tennis building. I may wander up today.

Candie, “yeap”? A leap year “yep”?

I must have missed Brad and Angelina on the t.v.

I see enough of them in weekly tabloids here.
Kris McCracken said…
G, I'm not kidding when I say that they've been on the last five or so times I've watched the (Australian!) National 'News'.

If one of them went on a gun rampage I can understand it, but it seems to be "Brad drops kids off at school", "Angelina wants to purchase another child" or "Brad and Angelina scratch their arse"...

Honestly, who cares about this stuff?

I read something yesterday from a Filipino writer "Hindi para sa tamad ang pagsusulat."

-Writing is not for the lazy. :)

So much for the Brangelina stuff and hopefully it ends soon...the news and them ehehe. :D

Ohh, I meant that I couldnt be regular this past week, not you.
You have been more than regular with the posts and pictures and Thanks a Ton for that... :-))
Kris McCracken said…
Mirage2G, that Filipino writer is quite correct!
Kris McCracken said…
Yamini, it has been a struggle to maintain the regularity lately. That said, I am disciplined in my approach!

Yamini, that must be a hard job!

Hold me now, oh hold me now, until this hour has gone around. And I'm gone on the rising tide, to face Van Dieman's Land

Theme Thursday again, and this one is rather easy. I am Tasmanian, you see, and aside from being all around general geniuses - as I have amply described previously - we are also very familiar with the concept of WATER. Tasmania is the ONLY island state of an ISLAND continent. That means, we're surrounded by WATER. That should help explain why I take so many photographs of water . Tasmania was for a long time the place where the British (an island race terrified of water) sent their poor people most vile and horrid criminals. The sort of folk who would face the stark choice of a death sentence , or transportation to the other end of the world. Their catalogue of crimes is horrifying : stealing bread assault stealing gentlemen's handkerchiefs drunken assault being poor affray ladies being overly friendly with gentlemen for money hitting people having a drink and a laugh public drunkenness being Irish Fenian terrorist activities being Catholic religious subversion. ...

But when the strong were too weak to hurt the weak, the weak had to be strong enough to leave.

Can you believe that it is time for Theme Thursday already? Today we are not talking chocolate , toddlers , mess or ignominy . No, today we're dealing with ANIMAL . Now I could have posted a picture of a possum, numbat, wombat, wallaby or any other furry killing machine that roams our fair isle, but I figure that I'd use a far more deadly creature as an example of an animal . Some people - I know them as fools - have chosen to embrace that highfalutin idea that human beans are for some ungodly reason superior to animals. Of course, what these imbeciles seem to forget is that were are simple animals ourselves ! Anyone with a baby, toddler, teenage boy or Queenslander in their household could tell you this. Look at Henry [above]. One chocolate frog in the back of the car on a sunny day and all of a sudden it's Elagabalus meets Bacchus for a quick shandy in the Serengeti and we're down on all fours carrying on like a cat in heat. Fair dinkum, anyone who chooses to ...

Something unpleasant is coming when men are anxious to tell the truth.

This is the moon. Have I mentioned how much I adore the zoom on my camera? It's Theme Thursday you see, and after last week's limp effort, I have been thinking about how I might redeem myself. Then I clicked on the topic and discover that it was BUTTON. We've been hearing a lot about the moon in the past couple of weeks. Apparently some fellas went up there and played golf and what-not forty-odd years ago. The desire to get to the moon, however, was not simply about enhancing opportunities for Meg and Mog titles and skirting local planning by-laws in the construction of new and innovative golf courses. No, all of your Sputniks , "One small steps" and freeze dried ice cream was about one thing , and one thing only : MAD Now, I don't mean mad in terms of "bloke breaks record for number of scorpions he can get up his bum", no I mean MAD as in Mutual assured destruction . When I was a young man you see, there was a lot of talk about the type of m...
