True peace is not merely the absence of tension: it is the presence of justice.

Here s the gang quite a few months back now. Henry didn't look like a roadie for the Greatful Dead and Ezra still had a basketball head. Jen pretty much looks the same, however. I myself have a few extra grey hairs.

Pros and Cons of Toddlers Part Six

Pro #5: They're EASY TO BEAT. Henry loves competitive games: hide and seek; chess; Connect Four; Brandings; Catch and Kiss; Scrabble; anything really. Him being a toddler means that I have an unsurpassed win ratio, as he isn't very good.

Con #4: They're TOO EASY TO BEAT. Winning without a challenge is just not fun. Seriously, this evening I had a good half hour of hide and seek, and Henry hid in the same two places over and over. Compounding this poor strategy was a tendency to giggle the whole time, and then shout "I'm here by the drawers" half a second after I start looking for him. He's just rubbish at it. Where's the glory in that kind of victory?

Wait until there's two of them wanting to hide in the same spot. Both of them giving away the hiding spot.
Do you remember the competitiveness of the games, when faced with defeat the games board was upended, finishing any chance of a result? A few reminiscences of my own.
We love our children no matter what.

I am shocked, sir! In this day and age, I think anyone who can talk about beating his own children is...

Umm... Wait a second...

Sorry. Shouldn't skim over things like that.

Personally, my preference was ME hiding (and them being so crap at being able to find me) and staying hidden until there was much hysteria...with them thinking I had gone out and left them! Ho Ho Ho what fun we had! It was just tooooo easy!!
Enjoy it while it lasts coz now my boys enjoy nothing less than scaring the living bejesus out of their poor old mother!
What goes around comes around....

This hide and seek business sounds great fun. Have you tried hiding from the boys?

Absolute excellence personified.
I wish that I had gathered pictures like these as you and you brother grew

Where, oh where, do you keep coming up with titles to your entries? I look to them and find something good to think about.

Just looking at this picture again and I realise just lucky I am to have such a good looking family. I feel such pride every time I view their countenance.

TSF, I need to get a new belt, come to think of it...

Sue, I did manage to hide for a good ten or so minutes in the bath where it was nice and quiet and Henry didn't look.

Valerie, I have and usually win.

Erik, there's been a lot of stuff said over the years, some of it interesting! ;)

Roddy, hands off, they're MINE!

The boys are cute and Jen, as always looks great.

When will we see you in the family portrait?

Really?? He seems to have become "too hot to handle". You are beginning to sound exasperated now :-))

Hold me now, oh hold me now, until this hour has gone around. And I'm gone on the rising tide, to face Van Dieman's Land

Theme Thursday again, and this one is rather easy. I am Tasmanian, you see, and aside from being all around general geniuses - as I have amply described previously - we are also very familiar with the concept of WATER. Tasmania is the ONLY island state of an ISLAND continent. That means, we're surrounded by WATER. That should help explain why I take so many photographs of water . Tasmania was for a long time the place where the British (an island race terrified of water) sent their poor people most vile and horrid criminals. The sort of folk who would face the stark choice of a death sentence , or transportation to the other end of the world. Their catalogue of crimes is horrifying : stealing bread assault stealing gentlemen's handkerchiefs drunken assault being poor affray ladies being overly friendly with gentlemen for money hitting people having a drink and a laugh public drunkenness being Irish Fenian terrorist activities being Catholic religious subversion. ...

Lost inside an adorable illusion and I cannot hide, I'm the one you're using, please don't push me aside, we could've made it cruising, yeah.

Yes it is Theme Thusday again, and today we are talking GLASS . I've three possible hooks to hang my [glass] hat on with this theme. First, the photo! Yes, it is the river again from an odd angle in an interesting light. You can just make out the bottom, which should tell you that I'm right on the shore. In some ways, the distortion of the stones below the surface reminds me of ye olde glass windows, what they call "cylinder blown sheet glass". You can still find some of this around Hobart these days. Thw second link comes from a trip I took to Venice a few years back. You're probably aware that Venice was (is?) a glass-making centre of excellence. If you have ever been there and taken the tour of the glass factories, you might be familiar with the sheer amount of coloured glass that sits at the bottom of the water there. These fragments of glass have been worn down and had their edges dulled by their time in the water, which makes them ample keepsakes for the ...

Happy anniversary baby, got you on my mind

No it is not a webcam, but this photograph was taken a mere forty-five ago on my way in to work. Here you can see a good old fashioned Hobart autumn morning, with the rain pelting down and me getting drenched. This one was taken on the corner of Macquarie and Elizabeth, while I was waiting for the lights to change. Come on Ampelmännchen ! Today is my wedding anniversary, an apparently I need to be showering Jen with leather -related goodies. Va-va-vaVOOM! To you Jennifer, here is a poem I wrote this very morning. Anniversary I love you i love you iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou I LOVE you I love YOU iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou I LOVE YOU iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou Happy anniversary
