Hope is the thing...

The real end of summer. Hobart as seen from Little Howrah Beach. March 2012.

People who find breastfeeding offensive are idiots.

Hope is the thing..., Emily Dickinson

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

breastfeeding a 4 year old in public may not be offensive but wanting to do it is pretty weird.

me thinks mummy might have even more issues than those offended by it.

A good time to be reminded of the hope poem, so perenial.
A gorgeous photo. Happy new season to you all.

Jason, the thing about that Advocate story is that she isn't breastfeeding a four year old in public, she has a four-month-old. All she said was, "it shouldn't matter whether it is a four-month-old or a four-year-old". I suspect that she'd probably phrase it differently if the kiddie got to four and still wanted feeding.

Dina, hello Dina, good to see you back! It is a lovely poem, sometimes we all need a little hope.
