Theme Thursday?

FAITH?!?!

Cripes.

I have FAITH that Satan Claws will make it through and deliver us some presents...

I have FAITH that at least one of my children will spend the bulk of the Christmas period moaning...

I have FAITH that it will either a) rain on Christmas day (thus spoiling the planned beach picnic lunch) or b) it will be a splendid day but that I will have developed a cold/ strained another muscle/ develop a migrane...

I have FAITH that someone will do something nice for someone somewhere in the World...

I have FAITH that someone will treat someone incredibly bad somewhere in the World...

I have FAITH that some good will come of it...

I have FAITH that some bad will come of it...

I have FAITH that the world will keep revolving...

Well, yes, for the bits I like I hope you are right. For the rest, I hope you are wrong. There are two possibilities...

Hi Kris,

Well I hope that your day turned out better than the way you thought it would and that you had a great picnic. My thoughts about the whining would be to just say you are sending it back to Santa because he has a "No whining" rule and anyone who whines has to give it back and wait until next year and if the whining continues then Santa gives it to another kid who does not whine. Stay strong with this one and the whining should end and if not then at least you will save a lot of money.

When I suddenly had two step-granddaughters that I had only met a few times. I thought the best thing would be to give them money because I had no idea of what they had at their mothers house. We gave them over $100 each and I thought they would be happy. But I found them in their bedroom with their father crying because they only had one gift to open while their younger brothers had more. It was easy to buy for the boys because they lived with their dad and I could see what they had. And I did not spend as much on them individuality. I was shocked and felt my gift was not appreciated and I even explained my reason. So the next year they got a couple of small gifts and basically wanted to know where the money was. I told them that since they whined about it the year before that I did not want to upset them again and so I thought it best to not give them anything to whine about. But since they had whined about the gifts, guess what they got the next year. They had no gifts or money of which to whine about. Now many years later, they seem to be thankful for anything I might give them. Funny how I have been sick for these past few months and none of them got anything from us, well we did buy the Christmas dinner. But we had no gifts and I barely stayed for a couple of hours, being too sick to enjoy being there. Funny thing is that we did not hear one complaint out of any of them. I think they were thankful for their dinner. Maybe in a bit I will give them something since they did not whine.

Anyway this worked for us.

Thank you so much for visiting everyone for me while I have been sick. And yup I am totally whining about being sick in the hopes that someone will take it away from me. LOL

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and God bless you and your family. I have faith in you being a good guy. You really are, just in case you did not know.

J Cosmo, it was alright on the day really.

Lady in Red, cheers!

Mrsupole, it can be a tricky time of year for all. I don't think it helps to have the unremitting message of "time to be happy", "time of joy" helps when you're often cramming people together who otherwise don't spend a lot of time together!

Mad as hell

So there I was, arm hooked up to the machine, watching my plasma swirl away into a bag while the morning news dribbled across the screen like a bad fever dream. And what were they showing? A "riot" in Melbourne, allegedly. The sort of riot where the real thugs wear body armour, carry pepper spray and look like they just walked off the set of RoboCop. The people they were beating? A ragtag crew of teenagers and old hippies—probably fresh out of a drum circle, still smelling of patchouli. But sure, let's call it a riot. Now, here's where it really gets good. I mentioned this spectacle to a few people later, thinking maybe they'd share my outrage or, at the very least, give a damn. But no. What did I get instead? A smirk, a chuckle, and—oh, the pièce de résistance—"You should really just let it go." Let it go? Yeah, let me uncork a nice, overpriced cup of coffee, sit back with my legs crossed, and soak in the latest reality TV trash. Why bother caring when ...

Hold me now, oh hold me now, until this hour has gone around. And I'm gone on the rising tide, to face Van Dieman's Land

Theme Thursday again, and this one is rather easy. I am Tasmanian, you see, and aside from being all around general geniuses - as I have amply described previously - we are also very familiar with the concept of WATER. Tasmania is the ONLY island state of an ISLAND continent. That means, we're surrounded by WATER. That should help explain why I take so many photographs of water . Tasmania was for a long time the place where the British (an island race terrified of water) sent their poor people most vile and horrid criminals. The sort of folk who would face the stark choice of a death sentence , or transportation to the other end of the world. Their catalogue of crimes is horrifying : stealing bread assault stealing gentlemen's handkerchiefs drunken assault being poor affray ladies being overly friendly with gentlemen for money hitting people having a drink and a laugh public drunkenness being Irish Fenian terrorist activities being Catholic religious subversion. ...

Something unpleasant is coming when men are anxious to tell the truth.

This is the moon. Have I mentioned how much I adore the zoom on my camera? It's Theme Thursday you see, and after last week's limp effort, I have been thinking about how I might redeem myself. Then I clicked on the topic and discover that it was BUTTON. We've been hearing a lot about the moon in the past couple of weeks. Apparently some fellas went up there and played golf and what-not forty-odd years ago. The desire to get to the moon, however, was not simply about enhancing opportunities for Meg and Mog titles and skirting local planning by-laws in the construction of new and innovative golf courses. No, all of your Sputniks , "One small steps" and freeze dried ice cream was about one thing , and one thing only : MAD Now, I don't mean mad in terms of "bloke breaks record for number of scorpions he can get up his bum", no I mean MAD as in Mutual assured destruction . When I was a young man you see, there was a lot of talk about the type of m...
