Self-confidence is the first requisite to great undertakings.

Look what we found. Opossum Bay Beach, Opossum Bay. December 2012.

Theme Thursday again and I'm stuck for what kind of RIBBONS to wear in my hair.

Complicating this is the fact that I've had my hair cut quite short, which limits the size, scope and number of RIBBONS that will fit. I could staple them on (or use nails), but I'm reticent to do that. Thus I'm stuck with choosing one.

Initially I thought that I could happily support the Levellers' emphasis on the expansion of sovereign rights during the English Civil War, but did not want any Canadian readers to think that I was declaring my unequivocal support for pornography. Nor do I have an express desire to support the troops in Pakistan or feel any particular solidarity with Chechnya (good luck to 'em though).

I love blue, but really, blue ribbons are so passée and I couldn't think of a greater insult that have someone think that I supported either the British Tory party nor Ukranian President Viktor Yanukovych!

White? C'mon, the Woman's Christian Temperance Union?

Red? While I'm all for the proletarian revolution or World Aids Day, the drug prevention angle makes me feel decidedly uncomfortable.

Black? Anarchists. Yellow? Too closely associated with the oak-tree lobby. Gray? Pro-Confederate secession! Orange? I boycott all things David Hicks-related and to be frank I have long been uncomfortable with the key goals of the National Association for the Preservation of the Botswanan Mongoose. Purple? Religious tolerance? BAH! Pink? I love breasts, but simply cannot endorse breast cancer.

I'm struggling.

What have we got left?

Brown? BROWN! That's the ticket! Not only does it match my hair, eyes and skin tone, but it endorses George Carlin's "Eat shit motherfucker" campaign, his response to the preponderance of politically-motivated RIBBON wearing!

Hi Kris,

Oh this one had me laughing so much. All of you always surprise me with how much you know about each weeks prompt. I really had no idea that all these colored ribbons are associated with so many different things. But I can really see you wearing a ribbons in your hair. Before reading this, I think the only two colors that I knew meant anything were: yellow and pink. What a great reference this post will make for what each color the ribbons mean. And you have one for each day of the week. I am with you in that I never wear ribbons either but I do like to use them for wrapping gifts.

Happy TT and take it easy this weekend.

God bless.

Okay this made me giggle. I like that I thought Carlin would approve of this before you actually mentioned him yourself.

It seems now-a-days every cause has picked up their own specially colored ribbon. I'd like to just wear them because they're pretty.

Mrsupole, I'll be frank and admit that I've never actually worn in my hair...

Susan, cheers!

Tom, it was a big one wasn't it? He was parked in an odd place to be honest, well away from where I would have expected him. Perhaps a large gull had dropped him.

Raivenne, I miss George...

Joyce, which is as good a reason as any!

Lady, brown is beautiful!

If you want to be loved, be lovable.

Zeal, n. A certain nervous disorder afflicting the young and inexperienced. A passion that goeth before a sprawl.

Here I have tried my hand at the homemade sepia-toned photo. I wasn’t happy with the way that the sun had washed out some of the colours in the original, so had a bit of a fiddle because I like the look on Henry’s face, and didn’t want to pass on posting it. I have a tip for those of you burdened with the great, unceasing weight of parenthood. I have a new recipe, in the vein of the quick microwaved chocolate cake . Get this, microwaved potato chips . I gave them a run on Sunday, Henry liked the so much I did it again last night. Tonight, I shall be experimenting with sweet potato. I think that the ground is open for me to exploit opportunities in the swede, turnip, carrot and maybe even explore in the area of pumpkins. Radical, I know. I’m a boundary-pusher by nature. It's pretty simple, take the potato. Slice it thinly (it doesn't have to be too thin, but thin enough). Lay the slices on the microwave plate, whack a bit of salt over the top and nuke the buggers for five minut

Ah, Joe, you never knew the whole of it...

I still have the robot on the job. Here you can see the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery . And here is a poem: Soliloquy for One Dead Bruce Dawe Ah, no, Joe, you never knew the whole of it, the whistling which is only the wind in the chimney's smoking belly, the footsteps on the muddy path that are always somebody else's. I think of your limbs down there, softly becoming mineral, the life of grasses, and the old love of you thrusts the tears up into my eyes, with the family aware and looking everywhere else. Sometimes when summer is over the land, when the heat quickens the deaf timbers, and birds are thick in the plumbs again, my heart sickens, Joe, calling for the water of your voice and the gone agony of your nearness. I try hard to forget, saying: If God wills, it must be so, because of His goodness, because- but the grasshopper memory leaps in the long thicket, knowing no ease. Ah, Joe, you never knew the whole of it... I like Bruce Dawe. He just my be my favourite Austral
